Mdac 2.8 Sp1

The whole reason that you must service pack 2003 server before going to SP2 for BES is the MDAC update. There is no way to update to MDAC 2.8 SP1 without service packing the server to SP1.

I've done it in our test environment both ways without SP1 on the server and with. You won't notice anything big, but it does affect how the BES talks to the database.

There is absolutely no reason not to go to SP1 on 2003 server when upgrading to SP2 on the BES.

When you start questioning why RIM requires things is when you will start having problems.

Have you attempting loading this http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en
???

I don't doubt that going to SP1 isnt a bad idea, but I'm just pointing out that if the updated mdac is the only reason, then I don't see why it can't be done via the patch. Unless 2003 will not allow the installation of that patch.

SP1 for W2003

Is this SP1 only if you have a local dbase and not a remote SQL server?

MDAC updates apply to anything; sql or msde, remote or local.

I have a habit of doing that too.
I really should stop it. Who knows what I could be accidentally accepting...

Thanks! I just installed SP2 and no problems so far (it's been about 30 minutes).

Plenty of people using BES on a 2000 environment. Its just that if a business is buying a new box to host Blackberry on, theyre more likely to get the latest and greatest OS.

Two of mine are on 2000 w/ Exchange 2000 (although we're upgrading to 2003). One is one 2003 w/ Exchange 2000/2003. I'm planning on upgrading the 2000 servers (BES) to 2003 here shortly though.

Just FYI, for anyone else who notices this (I only noticed since I'm using the PHP Stats from blubyu), you can simply reboot the BES server once more and it will correct the version in the database. This is a known issue at RIM and has been assigned an SDR.
