When I am in another country such as Costa Rica? If I am talking to people that are back here in the US, do I get charged? If so how much?

I am not sure, I jsut have the unlimited data plan. Att said they charge like 2 cents per byte of data transfer. So how much would blackberry meseenger use up?

2 cents per byte? That sounds kind of drastic.. Are you sure it isn't 2 cents per megabyte?

If you're roaming internationally the data can get expensive. You will be charged and it will be a lot.

Unlimited data is when you are in the US. When you are out of the country roaming rates are applies. Costa Rica is $0.15/KB.
