I am trying make it easier for blackberry users to dial into Intercall/Raindance conference calls by automating the dialing sequence. This is extremely useful, as it avoids having to write down the conference id and passcode.

There are 4 steps to getting on an Intercall/Raindance conference call as follows:

*Dial the main access phone number (555-555-5555 in the example below)
*Dial the conference ID and then dial # (8766333# in example below)
*Announce your name and then dial #
*Dial the passcode and then dial # (1298# in the example below)

To make it more interesting, the delays are variable, so I don't believe use pause(comma's) works.

I have sort of a solution. The following works if I copy/paste into the phone app(ficticious numbers used):

+1-555-555-5555!8766333#!#!1298#

The problem? Only a portion of the above string is 'clickable'. If the blackberry recipient gets the above string in an email and clicks on it, only the following is sent to the phone app:

+1-555-555-5555!8766333

Details:

If I cut and paste the above, it dials correctly, prompting the user each step of the way. However, if I put this in an email, the user cannnot just click on the number. The user has to select the entire string, copy, then go to the phone app, paste, and hit green.....

I was previously using the following sequence to solve most of the problem. The blackberry does a nice job of sensing the entire string and making it clickable.

+1-555-555-5555 8766333#

Any advise from the guru's?

There have been many threads about this. Only real way of doing this is to put the string in a contact phone number field.

I just tried sending myself an email containing the following text:

tel:+1-555-555-5555!8766333#!#!1298#

which seems to result in a fully-selected clickable link. I also tried including that same text as an inserted hyperlink, and it also appeared to a fully-selected clickable link, but on my Curve using OS 4.3.0.127 it doesn't really look any cleaner because of the lack of HTML support.

I don't have any real number like this to test with, but it looks like it should work.

Out of curiosity, how did you come across the 'tel:' capability?

I really don't remember, but I do remember seeing it on my Nextel i560 using Opera Mini v2.x. I don't remember whether it was Opera Mini that converted things that looked like phone numbers into clickable links, or if the link was already present in what I was viewing. That has to be 2-3 years ago, and may not have been the first time I saw it.

I guess that goes shows that no matter how many threads exist on a subject, or how exhaustively it's been discussed, a better answer may be just one post away.
