Default Automatically Dim Backlight Setting

Please Login to Remove!

Ok, so I just got a Bold! My question is this, on my Curve there was a setting to keep the trackball and keypad lit up all the time, no matter if you were in a well lit area or in the dark. The Bold has the same option in settings, however I don't think it's working because I have it set to off, and the trackball and keyboard automatically dim after about 10 seconds or so. Any suggestions, or is this the way the Bold ships?

Options > Screen/Keyboard > Backlight Timeout

No, I did all that, have it set to 90 sec! underneath that setting is the Automatically Dim Backlight setting, which i would guess can either keep the keypad lit up, or to only come on in very low light! On mine it goes dim on the trackball & keypad after a couple of seconds. Only the screen stays lit up!

Nope, that is all you can set, however I have found that while typing, especially in the dark, you can place your finger over the LED indicator for a second or two, the backlight on the keyboard will come back on for whatever your setting is, then go out. Hope this helps.

I'm pretty sure, they'll be something that we can do once an update is pushed out! Let's see how long that takes to get to us! Otherwise I'm getting used to my new toy!

The back light will change based on the amount of light it detects. What the other user said about putting your finger over the LED for coverage/messages there is a sensor there that detects your surrounding light. It brightens the screen the brighter it is around you and if you are in the dark it dims the screen. so the option that says "Automatically Dim Backlight" either turns that feature on or off. all it does is save battery power when you are in the dark and really don't need such a bright screen.

Yes Caspan, I know all about it! I've been a blackberry faithful for a while now! My question was- Is there a way to keep the trackball, and keypad lit while the device is being used, no matter the lighting. My 8700, 8800, 8830 8300, and 8310 all had the option to do so! The Bold however does not. Whether with auto dim on or off, the keypad and trackball go dark after a half a minute or so. But what can ya do, every drop of battery juice is valuable I guess to this monster.

I am finding the keyboard backlighting is off frequently when it should not be. I cannot associate it with ambient light, timeout, whatever. Thing is whenever the LCD backlight is on the keyboard/trackball backlight has to be on.

This is the first real flaw I have found with the Bold and it is a real pia.

Yea, annoys me also!!! But just think about how much more of a battery drain it would be if it stayed on like the Curve. Ohh well, I've gotten used to it the last 2 weeks.
