I got a new Bold and really like it. This handheld verison is 4.6 something. I want to install update recent 5.0 os. Do I need to wipe or uninstall 4.6 first before I install 5.0? thanks

You do not need to wipe or uninstall. Many (including me) recommend doing a one off backup before upgrading (the upgrade will do a backup as the first step anyway).
