Default OS 5.0 + Desktop Redirector

Please Login to Remove!

Hi, all.

Have any of you come across this issue?

I have a Bold, running Beta 5.x and Desktop Redirector 3.6.0.69 (part of Desktop Manager 5.0.8) attached to Exchange Server 2003. It's this Exchange based email I call "work", below.

1) HTML is not supported (all my work email is converted to text)
[I think this is simply Redirector being mean]

2) Mail messages from work which are just words, come in fine (albeit in text format). Mail messages from work which have attachments are broken: I can see the subject/sender and that there are xx attachments but I can not see the accompanying text nor can I download/view the attachment. [Again - it's just Redirector being stupid and not allowing the "view attachment" option but the missing text is really worrying]

So ...

Has anyone ever got HTML to work using Redirector? AND, more importantly,

Has anyone else experienced "no text" when using Redirector and OS 5.x when getting emails with attachments?

Thanks, all.

PS: Every version of OS 5.x I've tried has these issues. It's not just the latest .190 on my Bold.

UPDATE: The issue was a 3rd party application called SmrtGuard.

SmrtGuard uses specially formatted email messages to control the device and for BES (or Desktop Redirector) based email, things were getting broken.

SmrtGuard version 1.99 or higher fixes that problem. The fix was made available on the 16th of September.

I've tested 4.6.0.301 and 5.0.0.190 and they're both behaving well, now.

If only Redirector supported true redirection, now, with HTML and attachments.

hello, TTune

I experienced the exact same issues as yours, but I'm not sure where SmrtGuard is used. I never install this software. Could you please let me know more details of how you solve this problem? Thanks a lot.

I could not understand how RIM could possibly be so clumsy to break DM5 with OS5. Therefore it MUST me something I installed and not RIM - So I simply deleted applications, one by one, until I found the one that broke DM5.

SmrtGuard is a paid-for application. It uses email to communicate with it's own servers and to make things happen on your device. (A special email, for example, will make your device scream for 10 minutes - very helpful if you can't find it in your house )
