Ha!

So, just uploaded the .509 OS to my bb, and, what do you know, same thing as before?!

Neither Windows Media Player or Windows Explorer can detect my device?

Uninstall the os and dm using either revo uninstaller or absolute uninstaller. Now plug in your blackberry and see what happens.

I have revo uninstaller 2.1.5 but it presents a list of software applications that can be uninstalled. Itdoes not detect drives nor does it detect my blackberry, so I don't see any way to uninstall the OS on my blackberry using it?

You mean uninstall the OS of my bb, right?

No sorry, I meant uninstall the os and dm from your computer. When you use revo uninstaller, it also removes the drivers that the blackberry uses when you connect to the pc. So after you uninstall everything from your computer and you plug in the the blackberry, everything should be fixed. Also, when using revo uninstaller make sure you select the advanced uninstall (the one where it removes everything, I think it's the last option) and it might remove both dm and the os at once.

ok, uninstalled the os and dm using revo but, when hooking up my bb, these result:

1) on my bb, a window pops up saying "The charging source connected to your bb device cannot charge your batter. > More Information > Some USB hubs might not provide enough power. Plug the hub into a power outlet (if available) and reconnect your bb device. try connecting to another usb port (different computer, usb hub, or travel charger). verify that your computer is not in standby, hibernate, or sleep mode. verify that bb device usb drivers are installed on your computer."

2) A window on my pc pops up: Found New Hardware Wizard. This wizard helps you install software for: Blackberry.......What do you want the wizard to do? Install the software automactically (Recommended). Install from a list or specific location (Advanced).

In choosing the first one, the wizard searched....and (eventually) the driver was installed on my pc.

3) My bb is however is still not detected by Windows Explorer nor by Windows Media Player, and I have not reinstalled the DM?

Windows explorer should read the device. When you connect your device, look at the screen, a pop up will show up asking you if you want to turn on mass storage mode. Select yes.

As said, Windows Explorer does not read the device.

Even without "Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connected" turned to "prompt," "no," let alone "yes," no pop up shows up asking if I want to turn on mass storage mode.

What I said in my last posts, about that only those 3 things happen, that is all I have seen (though since a driver was installed via bb via the add hardware wizard, only # 3 occurs -- that WE and WMP do not detect my device). And although I have not reinstalled DM, even with it as said several times in this thread, WE and WMP do not detect my device?

Just to rule things out. Have you tried a different usb port, cable or even different computer?

Thanks -- tried both usb ports and a different cable, but not another computer (don't have another one).

Unfortunately, I don't know anyone herabouts cwith a bb close enough to try on their computer.

Will try tomorrow on another computer to see if it detects my bb.

I'm on Windows XP.

Note that this was never a problem until a few weeks ago. Initially as said early on I was thinking it might be the OS upgrade on my bb. Although I have installed, uninstalled, reinstalled, and uninstalled BB Desktop Software a few different times in trying to troubleshoot this -- even went into regedit and deleted all RIM folders in there -- I haven't did anything to my pc (i think) to cause this on the pc end? But of course I don't know what the problem is! Even went to an earlier system restore point on my pc....

And, I will admit that in earlier uninstalls of BB Device Manager, I did not do the full uninstall version -- hence mostly why I went into regedit...

revo uninstaller should remove all registry keys and all files and folders left behind after the uninstall.

right - but I meant to say that I did not do the advanced version (wasn't paying 100% attn) of uninstall with revo the first time or two...hence why I went in subsequently to regedit....

well, the last time I uninstalled dm (and the os) I did the full, advanced uninstall via revo.

but I went ahead and did (it again) as you suggest, installed the dm software, started it up for kicks -- still doesn't help WE or WMP detect my bb once Media Manager is running, as months earlier -- then uninstalled it, and no change as before.

ugh.

Try a different usb port. As a last resort, try connecting your bold to a different computer and see what happens. Also, if you have a media card, try removing it when connecting the bold to the pc.

Already tried a different usb port and removing the media card -- makes no difference.

Swapped the a: drive with the bb and it shows when the a: drive disappears and reappears when disconnect/reconnect but not when the bb is connected?

When I have the opportunity to hook up to a different computer I'll do so...

thanks for the feedback!
