I have the same problem and have found a work around.
My problem was that after I installed update 5.0.1 to the Blackberry Desktop Software the redirector was no longer available. I do not have BES running but do have a work email address in MS Outlook with an Exchange back end.
My solution:
Disconnect your Blackberry smart phone from the computer.
Reinstall Blackberry Desktop Software from the Control Panel - Add or Remove Programs.
This time when you install, modify the settings to use a work email even though it says you need BES.
After the install is complete, look for the files Redirector.exe and redirectorlanguage.dll
Copy these to a temporary directory -- you're going to need them later.
Reinstall Blackberry Desktop Software from the Control Panel - Add or Remove Programs.
This time when you install, modify the settings to use a personal email.
After the install is complete, copy the files Redirector.exe and redirectorlanguage.dll back into the Program Files\Research in Motion\Blackberry directory.
Double click Redirector.exe to start it.
Now you can connect and synch your Blackberry if you want.
You may want to create a desktop shortcut to Redirector.exe on your desktop to start and stop it when you want to.
Good luck.
