Default My first Blackberry - Gmail help

Please Login to Remove!

Hi everyone,

I just got my new Bold today. I have set everything up and have a couple of questions:

1. I set up my gmail account to come to my phone. On my phone home screen I have 2 icons for email - both of which receive new emails. Why is this? Can I delete one of them? If so, how do I do that?

2. When I set up my email I received a couple of new emails but none of the old ones that are stored in my gmail account. I have POP enabled, how do I download my old messages?!

Thanks in advance,
Emma

Welcome to BBF.

Please read your user guide and read through our FAQ for additional information.

1. Email comes to the general messages folder and to the folder for the specific email account. If you delete a message from one folder, it is deleted from both. That cannot be changed. You can hide the one that you do not want to use, but I do not suggest hiding the main messages folder as that also receives missed call and SMS notifications. If your device has OS 5, which I think the 9700 does ther ei a method to separate it out. This might be the way to do it:Messages > Options > General Options > SMS & Email Inboxes = Separate. Use the SEARCH feature if not.

2. Email does not sync. Only mail received from the time you set up the account on the BB will be pushed to the device. If you need old messages, then you will need to send them to yourself.

The BB isn't an iPhone. If that is a requirement, then you have the wrong device.

Hi, it may be possible that your carrier set up an email id for you as well. Also there is a general messages folder that gets all the messages even BBMs there. you can "hide" that so it does not get irritating

Thats it - hope i helped

Yes you CAN!!

Just download the Google mobile apps which are all excellent. This gives access to all your GMail.

GMaps is great also plus Latitude. I use it in China when visiting and everything works.

Point the browser to m.google.com and off you go
