Why do some BB's have a GPS icon on their homescreen near the battery icon but others don't? My 9700 doesn't have one but my friends Curve on Verizon does have it. Is it because of the phone model, carrier, or theme?

It's mostly carrier/network dependent.
It seems that CDMA devices display the icon and GSM devices don't.
