Default Encryption and Bluetooth

Please Login to Remove!

Within "Options>Security Options" there is a setting for Encryption. By default on my Bold 9650 it is set to disabled. When I enabled this feature, the Bluetooth data transfer (contacts) between my BB and my BMW car phone was stopped. I guess my car's phone does not accommodate encryption. So I disabled encryption since this phone functionality is important to me. All is now back to normal.

I understand Password Keeper uses AES encryption. Is Password Keeper encryption also turned off when I have BB encryption disabled as stated above, or does that only affect communications?

Thanks,

Daisey

Password Keeper is always encrypted. There's no way to turn it off.

Thanks, Penguin. I guess that means that encryption setting applies only to Bluetooth?

No, it doesn't apply to Bluetooth at all.
The encryption setting is encrypting the actual address book data, and your car has no way to decrypt it.

Penguin, thanks. Never thought of that. I guess I failed to understand why encrypting contacts would be of value. If my BB is locked, encryption or not my data is safe assuming I have a strong password, no?
