Default Can't use browser when connected to Wifi

Please Login to Remove!

I have a Curve 8520 on O2 which on the face of it seems to be connecting well to my BT Homehub. Yet when I run the browser the connection speed is that of a GPRS connection.

In the top right hand corner of the browser, there looks to be a pair of green monitors which indicate a wifi connection. Next to it there's an unlocked padlock symbol. What does this mean ?

I've been trying all sorts to get this to show a locked padlock without success. The one and only time I managed it, the speed of download was blisteringly quick, so much so I was able to watch a few Youtube videos as well. Trouble is, I was fiddling about with all sorts of buttons, I don't know what I did to make this work.

Does anyone have any advice please ?

Do you have a BB data plan? Most likely you do not have the proper WiFi service Books and cannot use the RIM related services.

The "green monitors" do not indicate a wi-fi connection.
It should say "wi-fi" or GPRS.
Whichever it says, thats what your browsing on.

If you are connected to wifi and the throughput is slow, power cycle the modem and router.

I think I might have sussed out what is happening. I turned off the mobile connection which meant the browser was forced to use the Wifi. This produced the desired fast speed that I wanted for browsing. Is there a way I can force the browser to use the fastest connection rather than defaulting to the GPRS one ?
