Default 8800 Backlighting

I want my 8800 to light up when I receive messages and phone calls. Does it do it automatically or must I keep fumbling for the light button in the dark like on my 7290?

When the BB is sitting on my desk with the backlight out, messages will just flash the red led. Phone calls cause the backlight to activate.

You can hit any key or the trackball to activate the backlight. There's no need to search for a specific key (so there's really nothing to "fix").

yeah Kris i wondered the same thing. I hate that the light isnt always flashing and the screen goes dark but it does save battery life. I have noticed though i would have emails and no light flashed.

led flashes evertime i get a message, for messages I dont want the backlight to come on as most times when i am waiting for an email or something its during the day. lighting up for phone calls is the main time i want the light. works fine for me as is, nothing to fix.
