The Cingular 8800 comes with a program called MEDIA which plays wav files. I actually use it to play my voicemails which are attached to emails.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8800/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

So media DOES play wav files? Hmm, Then my next question is how do I open wav files from an e-mail attatchment? Just like the other poster said, I listen to my voicemail via e-mail wav attachments.

Yes, it does. All you have to do is open the attachment and it will bring up the Media and play the file. It may take a few seconds to do it, but it does work.

In order to play wav files attached to email messages you MUST be using BES and NOT BIS.

what voice mail service are you all using? I am trying out CallWave right now. I receive the email notification and it has the attachment on the Computer but not on my BB and they are both the same email account.

Notice fonejunkie's reply above. You need a BES. I would assume with gmail you are on a BIS.

yep I read it, but I thought the only difference between BIS/BES was accessing corporate accounts. I contacted CallWave and they said nothing about needing BES and I did tell them I was using BIS... so not trying to sound ignorant but please help me understand the two services and why that would make a difference for attachments.

I know the attachments arrive to the BB because I can forward it to a PC and that message arrives with the attachment.

Thanks

It appears to just be a limitation that Cingular is enforcing on BIS accounts. As you say, the attachment gets to the phone, but with BIS, they will not allow you to play it without some third party app. Perhaps that will all change in the future, but IF? and WHEN? are the $64K questions.

Is there simply no way around this? Third party apps?

I just purchased AUDIOPOP from Virtual Views (Virtual Views Mobile Software) and am on BIS. It allows me to playback my voicemail messages that come to me as an mp3 file. It also playsback wav and wmi files. It is a very slick program and only $14.95. I am now a huge fan. Go to Virtual Views Mobile Software and check out AudioPOP.

Default Update:

Great news for this thread, BIS has recently upgraded to 2.3 allowing voicemail attachments to be heard whether in mp3 or wav file format. However, I'm still having errors trying to load the wav file, anyone else get it to work? Details:BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) 2.3 launches today : The Boy Genius Report
