Default Typing name in phone screen in 4.2 not working correctly

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

Running 4.2.1.66 on an 8700g

When I start typing a name on the phone screen only one of the contacts shows up in the bottom half. For example I have 12 contact starting with the letter M, but only one shows up when I type M. This is the case with any letter, only 1 contact shows up, the first entry in the phonebook with that letter in any of the 3 name fields

Bug?

Thanks

Have you tried rebooting the phone by removing the battery?

If you just hit the Call button quickly, that's how it will behave. Hold the call button down until the screen changes and your Address Book entries should come up.

If it doesn't, go into the Phone Options and turn off Dial from Home Screen.

Similarly, (with Dial from Home Screen disabled), if you tap a key (and there's an application associated with it like M for Messages), you will go to that application, but if you have a Speed Dial associated with that key also, it will be invoked if you hold down that key.

Tried it and it worked. Thanks

I guess the first step in resolving a BB problem is to remove the battery!

JerryD, I was referring to a new feature available in 4.2 that lets you type letters on the phone screen and contacts with those letter appear at the bottom half of the screen.

See http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...tml#post516503

Thanks
