Damn, I guess it's in the VZNav software itself. If you go to service books and take a peek at the WAP one and its HTR info you'll see a different IP and ports then all the other service books. I think this is the same type of info that GPS needs in terms of "PDE IP and Ports".... I think... I could be wrong though.

A Verizon employee told me today that VZNav will use the internal gps chip and not cell towers (once it is officially released)

Verizon needs to educate their customer service representatives about how GPS actually works.

I don't understand why VZ Navigator would use only the internal GPS and not both the Assisted (A-GPS) as well as the internal GPS for what is called S-GPS, short for Simultaneous GPS reception.

S-GPS is faster, more reliable than only using the 8830's internal GPS, and is really what A-GPS is about if one want to implement GPS Location Based Services correctly on a cell phone network--any network!

To only use the A-GPS may be fine for their BREW phones with no internal gps chips, but the 8830 benefits from being able to implement S-GPS services, using both methods of location getting.

To me, anything else is just a waste of code.

Warm regards,
Firefishe

I said "same type of info", not the same info. There's a difference. The IP and ports for the WAP service isn't going to tell you anything. That being said, the IPs I have for all the regular provisioning are actually RIM assigned IPs according to a whois lookup. The one for the WAP service book is a VZW assigned IP according to a whois lookup.

don't forget to delete the 'vendor.xml' file. Do a file search in windows. It will be the only file with that name. Delete it and then try to sync again. VZ doesn't
like other vendor software on their phones. Hope that helps.

Deleting the vendor.xml is required for any BB OS upgrade that's not from the same carrier as the bb being upgraded. It's not specific to VZ.

you have to delete the vendor file on all BBs not just a vzw when you install others OS

I looked and didn't see anything about VZNav or GPS in my service book. So far, after having it for a day, it's not half bad, this morning when I was using the "follow me map" it errored out everytime my pinpointed location moved off the screen, but when I would press "ok" it would correct itself and show my location again.

And this is why I argue that it would be good to have enabled autonomous GPS back on the phone. That way I can use whatever app works BEST for me, not have a "half-ass" working app shoved at me for a charge.

Oh yeah, and WTH is with this site and its constant Database Errors? Are you guys running on VZW code or something? HAHAHAHAHA!

I actually am liking VZNavigator relatively well. It's not TomTom or TeleNav, but it's pretty good considering it's the only choice we have. Mine seems to be pretty accurate as well. It's probably about as accurate as TeleNav has been for me.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8830/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

Anyone with the vz 8130 pearl notice the memory leak related to vznav? Is it only seen on the 8830?

See below. Here I have a great signal, but no sky or windows. Location information is available, but poor. Usually it claims accuracy to within 50 ft. Now it says 0.1 mi.

I have no explanation for that, other than it's using GPS satellites.

For what it's worth, my house is in a so-so reception area. When I go outside, I get an accurate fix. Indoors sometimes I get nothing at all (GPS error). For that reason, I suspect it is trying to use the GPS satellites.

This could be why some are having trouble in downtown New York: can't see the satellites, have to rely on cell towers.

Thoughts?

After vendor.xml is deleted, is it possible to use the VZW theme with the Telus .176 desktop OS or is one forced to use the Telus and/or Zen theme?
If so, how does one select the VZW theme after installing the Telus .176 software?
Thx.
