Default Professional Edition- dispatcher service problem

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

Server: Windows 2003 Server Standard SP1
Exchange: Exchange 2003 SP2 installed
Exchange server acting as FRONT-END Server
Information Store is not installed/running on FRONT-END Server

I just installed BlackBerry professional Edition 4.1.4 but a number of services do not start, including:
- Dispatcher service
- Consistency Service
- Policy Service
- Synchronisation Service

My BB software is installed on an Exchange Front-End Server that does NOT have an Information Store.

The System Log shows an Error:
Event ID: 7001
The BlackBerry Dispatcher service depends on the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service which failed to start because of the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

There are a number of errors in the Application Log, all as Event ID: 10000
e.g.

- Missing machine name property for server 'MERCURY' "

- Caught ASCLException with error code [202] and error message [202 - 'Sync Server Settings Unavailable' Property name is not found on server for this ClientPropertySet]

- PersistentSimpleProperty::getValue(): ASCL error encountered for BESAlert Settings Unavailable:

and others.

The Front-End server works fine, i.e. OWA works.

Any assistance in getting BB to work would be appreciated.

regards,
itcap

Default

found the problem.
I have to enable the Information Store on the BB server, which was disabled for security reasons on the Front-End server
oh well, so much for security...

Pity the BB server cannot use an Information Store on ANOTHER server- or can it...?

Thumbs up Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) on Exchange Front End Servers

From what I've read Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) doesn't require direct access to the Information Store - it accesses Exchange through MAPI. Given this, I am surprised that RIM have programmed BES services to be dependent on the Exchange Information Store.

After MUCH research (a day of reading...) you can change a few BES registry entries. By doing this BES no longer depends on the Exchange Information Store - it just ignores whether it is running or not.

Check out Blackberry KB01274.
