I can with my Bold. Go into Clock-> menu-> Options -> when charging -> switch that option to "Enter Bedside Mode"

Then when you drop it in the charger it goes into bedside mode, and your bedside mode settings take effect.

I sync using bluetooth so the BB sits in the dock on my desk almost 100% of the time I'm in the office and it's easy drop in and out. Only gripe, is that I can't use the silicone skin so it's awkward to remove and replace, but it's not a dealbreaker as far as I'm concerned, YMMV.

The new 5.xx software for the bold/8900 has this feature. You can set time parameters for any profile/bed side mode.

For example, i have mine setup for midnight to 7am > phone only > bedside mode. So I can put the phone in the cradle before and I will see the clock, but wont go into bedside mode nor change profile, at midnight, itll auto change to phone only/bedside mode... awesome!!!! the cradle and new os 5.0 were made for each other!

no you can still use the pod with a black bezel. just make sure you reinstall the two little charging contacts.

the black bezel will work, most times the contacts are there, but are painted plack as well, all you have to do is scratch off the paint from where the contacts are and you are all good, just be carefull not to scratch your bezel
