As a recent owner of a Blackberry 7230, I am new to this forum. I use SMS all the time and I would like to keep and save all my SMS onto my desktop. I can't find any application that synchronizes SMS with the Desktop (the software synchronizes calendar, contacts and tasks only). Does anybody know if there is a software or an application that allows to save, download or synchronize SMS? Thanks a lot in advance for your answers.

Default SMS to EMAIL, EMAIL to SMS

I have a Black Berry 7100t. Obviously, my service provider is T-Mobile.

I have been playing with various ways to send SMS through email and vice versa.

All T-Mobile 7100t's, and perhaps other Black Berries seem to have 3 possible email addresses which can be used to send SMS messages to the phone.

That is, someone can send an email to any of these three addresses, and it is sent to your phone as an SMS.

Given the phone number 9545551234, the three addresses would be:

[email address]
[email address]
[email address]

All three seem to work and get to the same place, that is the SMS of 9545551234.

What I observed, is that when the SMS is received on my phone, it has a return SMS number that is 3 digits long, and starts with a 5, in the form of 5XX. I tested this using an account on my computer. I decided to reply to that 3 digit number, and discovered that I could send a reply to the sender via that 3 digit number.

The problem is, that I could not initiate an exchange. An email had to be sent to my cell phone first so that a 3 digit short SMS number could be generated.

Then, I discovered this website: http://www.oeoe.fi/testsms.html

Basically, if you send an SMS to +358 40 517 4761
and have the text of your message have the form of:

[email address]in body of message

That body of the message will be sent as an email.
The only problem is the recepient cannot reply back to you.

I hope others try this and experiement and come back and share their results.

500 is T-Mobile's SMS to email gateway. To send an SMS as email, the format would be:

[email address] /<Subject> /<Body>

& send it to phone# 500. For Cingular, I believe the gateway phone# is 121. Of course, you'll have to mind the total # of characters for both sending & receiving. You can use this method as a workaround if you only have a phone plan & a large/unlimited SMS bucket, but no BlackBerry plan. I strongly do not recommend this though. I did this originally with prepaid SIMs to test out both T-Mobile & Cingular networks before I signed up for a Blackberry plan.

<sorry, another edit>
As a test, I sent myself a 400 character message to my home account but when the BlackBerry splits it, the remainder won't have a valid destination address & will bounce. Likewise on the PC to Blackberry side, long messages will be truncated.

I have to ask, 'Why' would you want a 7520 from Nextel if you're not going for some kind of data plan? Am I missing something or might you be better off with one of those sleek & slim Motorola Nextel phones?

I have a Nextel 7510 and although it has been a good phone I'm dropping Nextel at the end of next month when my contract is up to go back to Cingular seeing as I don't use the PTT function with anyone anymore and the 7510, as mentioned in this thread, will not send SMS. ... anyone want to buy a slightly used 7510 upgraded to 4.0 ?
As for the 7520 and SMS: You were mis informed the 7520 corrects whatever issue that was lacking in the 7510 and you can send SMS from it. Its funny how you can get a different answer from each person you talk with in a customer service environment.

Hope this helps.
Regards,
Dave

Default SMS on Nextel 7520

No problem.
I went to the Nextel web site and found the 'destructions' for the 7520 Click here to open the pdf document.
It specifies *** snip snip snip snip ****(edited).

Have fun with it!!

Dave

NCM & Kinger, et al - My Humblest apologies! I definately stand corrected as the instructions do not specify how to send ... only, as you so kindly pointed out, to receive.
Well, this is exactly what the 7510 does as well. I can receive them (without knowing who it came from) but cannot reply back. Well not that I was going to get the 7520 but that is certainly the nail in the coffin on that! .... 7100g here I come

Moose: I looked throughout that PDF before, and just agin since you posted the link, and for as far as I can see you can only recieve SMS but not send SMS. Which I think is probably a simple option for BB or NEXTEL to add.

Tryin to send an SMS to my own server. I'm not sure if I have SMS enabled on my phone. I don't have any options to create an SMS message. I'm wondering if it were possible to send an SMS message to a specified IP address. I do have an unlimited data plan with nextel.

I guess I found my answer;

Can I send/receive emails from my Cricket® handset?
No. Cricket® does not offer this feature at this time.
