For those who missed some. The slides are available for download in the Webcast. I've also put them up on BGR.

Eh, confirmation that OTASL will be included (unlike the beta). Also confirmation that Word to Go and Slideshow to Go in OS 4.5 initially, Sheet to Go to come later. That's about all that wasn't known already, but...

- OCS 2007 supported in 4.1 SP6, due out "later this year"
- Availability of SP5 in "2 to 3 weeks" even though the Life Cycle page still shows Feb 29

I think I heard right but just want to clarify, SP5 will NOT work for those with BES Express?

Anyone confirm that?

hmm, they didnt answer my question about OTA software updates and the backup that is stored on the device. i am curious where that backup is stored and whats its lifetime is. seems multiple upgrades OTA would result in loss of storage space on the device (if it is not stored on the media card)

Yes that interested me also. What happens to a device with low free space and no media card.

The 8700 for instance. if rumors are true it will be able to be upgraded to 4.5 OS, and at that point be able to be remotely upgraded. I am currently attempting to get questions answered.

Default New Stuff

One highlight that I noticed is a new Blackberry Server Monitoring option to monitor various aspects of the server. Another new feature is the Web version of the Desktop Manager function. The last new feature that is of note is the enhanced capability of the remote wipe. There is now an option to do the wipe but delay it x number of minutes in case the device was just misplaced.

While i think it will work with older devices i think it will be a bit clunky. i think the ota software update is geared more towards the newer devices like the new 9000/8400 whatever it will be with 1gb of internal memory.

my main question all along tho has been will users have to reactivate after the upgrade? if not then new os versions may have different storage methods and therefore updating the os files on the device will not touch the information such as emails and what not. so in this instance all it has to do is cache the cod files on the device, and then simply overwrite them and reboot.

of course i'm no developer and im only speculating.

did not have any device limitations from what i heard/saw. and to enable it in 4.5 OS and 4.1.5 BES i would think they would have to be able to do it on all devices that will support 4.5. Just a guess as i havent heard anything back yet.

OS 4.3.1 betas show Wireless Upgrade as an Advanced Option for the 8700, so I'm assuming it will be extremely compressed.

As for the automatic activation, that is part of the process for OTASL.

Also, there should be no restriction for downloading SP5 and applying it to BES Express. There may not be a full installation available for BES Express, but the service pack should have no issues with installing over your current installation. I could be wrong, but I can't think of any possibilities for limitation with that. The beta of SP5 updated my installation with very little issues (I did have to move the database from MSDE to SQL2000 to do the database upgrade, but I think that was limited to my environment (and possibly a bug in the installer) rather than the actual update). I have since moved my test BES to Enterprise, but I still anticipate the same issues. The installer crashed when trying to update a database trigger. This particular trigger is not upgraded when on MSDE, but I think it was exposed and present due to some previous testing/migration between MSDE and SQL for documentation purposes.

Just throwing that out there.
