Same here, running 8300 with 4.2.2 and it doesn't display the city. Only the number as usual. It IS running because I see it in my task list. But it doesn't appear to be working. I've rebooted also.

I've just noticed that it works for some numbers and not for others. Still needs a little work, but a great start.

I really like this application. What I personally wouldn't mind seeing in the future, if it were feasible, and if there was any demand/need for it other than me, that is; I'll list below. But first, I'd like to say that I can't program anything, and have no idea about what it takes to write apps such as this.
1) Currently, the application kicks in if the caller isn't in the BB addressbook. That makes sense, because usually if a caller is in the addressbook, you know who it is. But if the application worked by displaying the city and state on any call, that could help identify the caller faster at a glance. So, something like:
Line 1: City, State
Line 2: Addressbook caller name, or CallerID displayed name
Line 3: telephone number
If the caller isn't in your addressbook and you don't subscribe to CallerID, it'd just be blank. Currently, you just get lines 2 & 3 for addressbook entries, and lines 1 & 3 for non-addressbook entries; and if you have CallerID, it's overridden by line 1. Two-line displays might be a limitation, I don't know -- so if that were the case, I'd personally prefer CallerID to override line 1.
2) If idea #1 couldn't be implemented for programming/API reasons or lack of demand, I wouldn't mind the ability to have the ability to toggle the auto-startup on device boot. Generally, if I am "at home", I don't get too many out of town calls (so I'd prefer it off), but if I am out of town, I do (so I would prefer it on). While I understand that some people get calls from all over all of the time, this [seemingly] simple toggle would suit anyone's preference as to whether it be active by default, or not; instead of remembering to turn it off after each device start.
3) The issue of maintaining a huge database of area codes and keeping them updated plus the support for exchanges might be solved as thus: configurable area codes and exchanges, or customizable if you will. To clarify, keep in place the current database of area codes but have them supplemented by a customizable personal table (Menu, Add Custom), where custom entries will override the default area codes. For a given area code and exchange combination, display a custom user-defined field.
e.g. 222333 (parsed from +12223334444) = "Hickville, AA" (without the quotes), and 222666 = "Nextdoor, BB". This would solve those area codes that cover 5 different cities/counties and narrow down where the call is coming from.
Of course, those examples would only work for North America, but by having the 222 and 333's as separate fields and with sufficient space allocated to cover more than 3 digits in each of those two fields, it might be a solution for our overseas friends without having to obtain and maintain a list or database of international codes to use when the application parses an inbound call for every country telephone system.
Or, to reduce the size of the application, the program itself could be distributed without any area codes in the database (for those that want to set up completely custom ones themselves) or with full area codes for those that don't BUT they'd still have the ability to add their own custom entries. The advantage in the former is that it might also speed up execution of the program to not have to search through the entire database looking for a match.
Anyways, just a few ideas. It's not my intent that these be anything but suggestions/ideas. I realize that this app is currently donationware and probably a hobby. Thanks to bberic for the program as it is.
Edit/Add: no one has mentioned in answer to bberic's query on the first page: is CallerID (or Call Display or Name Display) not prevalent with the major US carriers? I took it for granted as I've had it for years and just assumed everyone else did too.

Any merit to the above ideas? Or too much for no benefit?

Berry a Code
I'm a newbie to BB stuff. I have a Cingular/AT&T Pearl with the 4.2.1.164 upgrade plus Colorpearl and Soft Reset. I downloaded this today and thought it didn't work since none of the city names showed. After I read through this thread, I tried calling from a # not in my address book and IT WORKED! I do agree that it should apply to ALL calls (regardless of address book or not) but since it's free...I can't complain.
Hope this helps some of you that think it's not working.

I'm on Rogers in Canada and yes, caller ID with name display is offered. One thing you could do is check if the name display=1 and ="private" || name display=1 and ="unknown" then apply Berry-a-Code else display callerid and name.
The strings may differ from carrier to carrier, though.

Verizon provides the number only for caller ID -- the only way a name is displayed is if it matches an entry in your phonebook.

Not only does Verizon Wireless NOT support caller ID, but Verizon home service barely supports it for calls coming from cell phones (my cell phone displays as Washington, DC on my home phone.)

Yeah and they give a BS answer that its for security and then Tech support finally said its a licensing thing through the FCC. Then went back to the security thing.

Yes, I just installed the application (version 1.0.16) on my 8830, OS 4.2.2.148. It works as expected without freezes. However, I am also having the issue where the NPA shows the correct area, but the NXX is showing the incorrect city.
For example, 956-631 displays as "Laredo, TX" instead of correctly "McAllen, TX" (3 hours away).

sometimes many cities use the same area code, or one city used many area codes. so it can get confused. like where i live
Long Beach
Los Alamitos
Seal Beach
Rossmoor
Belmont Shores
all these cities have the same area code, but it just comes up as Long Beach

I like this very useful app, there are apps available on windows mobile/palm/symbian/moto linux phones with similar function.
I transfer to blackberry last month, and seek for such app for a long time.
But the database only include USA and Canada.
Can it support other countrys?
Can we customize the database?
And I'm from China, I can provide the database, could you release some version of China? Just for database, English UI is OK.
Sorry for pool English. ![Embarassed](http://www.blackberryforums.com/images/smilies/icon_redface.gif)
