Upgraded from the prior 8830 beta. Stability seems a little better, for me.

One major change: with the prior beta, there was a "default" calendar that was separate from any of my e-mail accounts. A sync with DM would sync only with this "default" account. Which meant that any invites I would receive would be duplicated on my calendar (once for [email address] and another for "default").

For 77, the default calendar is tied to one of my e-mail account. However, it was set to my blackberry.net account, so every one of my calendar entries appears twice: once for blackberry.net and once for my work e-mail.

I had to delete my calendar database and re-sync (after setting the default calendar, in options, to my work e-mail).

So, despite the mess that it caused, I'm now happier.

I'm happy to see the return of the folder icons.

As for the issue of missing ringtones... what a pain! All of my profiles were reset and I had to fix them all.

As for fixing this: I have no jl_cmdr folder. I do have a JAVA folder, however, I put the file from the prior beta in there, renamed from qualcomm to 8830, and re-ran install manager in DM. Worked like a charm to get the file on my device.

It reset my e-mail profiles to not prompt me on delete (see VHT's post).

This was the least smooth "upgrade" I've performed.

Be aware that it will "downgrade" (their term) Doc2Go, if you installed the upgrade (with sheet2go). I forget to apply to "fix" for this problem before I upgraded to 77.

But, now that I'm up, seems to work pretty well.

I noticed a few new options, here and there.

Couple of observations after using 4.5.0.77 for a couple days.

1) Stability - Still feels like a beta OS. At least once a day either the "PLEASE WAIT" dialog or hour glass spinning for no apparent reason.

2) The new web browser interface is pretty cool - only complaint is that the Wikipedia search input box doesn't seem "understand" URL encoding. That is to say... if I searched on "2008 Olympics" the " " would be substituted as a "+" (per URL encoding) and Wikipedia would report that it is unable to find "2008+Olympics".

3) After a reboot (battery pull) it seems to take a little longer than normal to establish a data connection.

4) This might be a function of installing DM 4.7, but I cannot access my BlackBerry modem connection via USB any more - only Bluetooth
Still trying to figure out how to get a document "into" docs to go.... so no complaints there - yet.

5) Bell doesn't allow Youtube

For the BB as modem, I suggest going through the setup steps again. Sometimes the "Standard Modem" disappears as does the init string added under advanced.

Yeah, just run the DM installation again. That should add the standard modem back.

Would anyone be kind enough to e-mail me the single media .51 file I need to update for ringtones? I tried locating a copy of the whole OS on the internet but all the downloads require a bittorrent client and I dont have any installed.

Okay...I found, and downloaded, OS 4.5.0.77 for my Verizon 8830. I also have the newest version of DM (4.5 or 4.6). When I open DM, it doesn't prompt me to upgrade to the new OS, though I can go to Help>About BB DM and the current OS 4.2.2.196 (Verizon) is there, along with the newer 4.5.0.77 OS. I then go to App Loader, but when I browse for the .alx file (?), the newer OS doesn't show up.

I've upgraded to Verizon's latest OS, so I have some experience with this. Any ideas with what I'm doing wrong? I do know that when I look at what I downloaded, it is an .exe file type that says setup launcher. I assume that the issue is because it isn't an .axl file. Every search for the new OS came up with the same results.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You didn't delete the vendor file. It's located in the AppLoader folder vendor.xml

The only vendor file that I can find is in the folder for the older/current OS. I assume you mean the vendor file in program files>common files>RIM>AppLoader>Vendor XML Document....right?

Thanks

See....that is why I'm wondering if what I got off the net is actually the OS. I became curious after checking out properties and it said that it was an .exe file, not an .axl, which the DM App Loader called for.

I've posted this many times. If the vendor.xml file is empty (as is such in releases that are not carrier specific) then deleting the vendor.xml isn't necessary. However, if it's a carrier released OS then it will usually have a vendor.xml file that will need to be deleted. Regardless, there is no reason NOT to delete the vendor.xml.

I guess I was thinking that the vendor .xml file was tied into my older OS, therefore, not doing me any good with the new one. I kept going back to that .xml, debating about deleting it. I read the instructions here, but I guess I wasn't catching on.

Thanks again everyone. I read the instructions, but I guess my comprehension skills need to improve.
