Default Upgrade to 4.5 on AT&T 8800 - BBMaps

Please Login to Remove!

I want to upgrade to 4.5 on my BB, but do not want to lose BBMaps (followed your guide to get it there originally). I remember in a post, you said in 4.5 that BBMaps was controlled via service books. Is there any way to still have BBMaps after I upgrade?

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I wanted to get rid of that PTT mess on my phone and this took care of it.

Oh thank you.

yes, on OS 4.5 BBMaps needs a service book. You won't get BBMaps in OS 4.5.

Cool Deleting Themes

Thanks for the great directions John. I had to do it twice (accidentally deleted one of the Dimension and Orange themes when I was using the O2 theme.

I only use the O2 today theme. Is it safe to delete ALL the themes except the Orange O2 ones? Can I remove the Dimension ones if I never plan to use anything by O2 today?

Thanks in advance.

In my instructions I recommend not removing the Dimension themes. Problems can occur when those are removed. Many themes require those be installed in order to work.

I got that. Thank you. I learned that the hard way.

I was just curious since several people said they only leave one or two themes installed. I guess because I have all the Dimensions installed I have to keep them now.

Thanks again.

I have only dimension zen and TMobile zen. TMobile zen requires Dimension zen to be installed in order to run. You may be able to find another combination that works. However, any 3rd party themes you may download may not work without certain Dimension themes installed.

Question

Hey John.

In OS 4.5.55 there are a bunch of .cod files with the following names:

net_rim_bb_qm_google_resource_fr.cod

net_rim_bb_qm_icq_resource_nl.cod

net_rim_bb_qm_msn_resource_it.cod

net_rim_bb_qm_yahoo_resource_en.cod

So there seem to be a ton (16) each of files with google, ICQ, MSN, AOL and Yahoo in the filename.....any idea what the heck these are & if they are installed on the device? If so, are they safe to delete?

Thanks!!!

IIRC, they are not installed on the device except with enabling of certain language installs. Look at the end of each cod file: fr=french, nl=netherlands, it=italian, en=english. Some may only be installed if you don't delete your vendor codes in the first part of this process.

OK so i followed carefully these instructions and the numerous posts. I deleted a lot of things and after a hard reset I'm around 21MB free. After a few days, apps open etc it's usually around 16MB.
It's good but I don't understand how some of you manage to have 25-30MB free.
I only have Google MAps+JiveTalk+Documents To Go.

21MB isn't bad at all though. I tweaked my old 8830 as much as possible and stayed around 18 free.

I just ran into a small issue. After removing all the vad files and themes (100-241) when trying to go to about under options, it doesn't open at all. This occurred immediately after removing these files. Any ideas John?

Step 5 in John's instructions -

Be aware that if the VAD (Voice Activated Dialing) files are removed from OS 4.3 and up devices then the Option >About screen becomes inaccessible. You can get the same info by typing in alt + EACE from the home screen on your BB.

That's what I get for not reading thoroughly. My apologies. Thank you.
