Long story short...Booze Cruise and bickering. I acknowledged that I probably deserved to be pushed into the bay…and without hesitation my wife gives me a good shove…I grabbed her wrist in hopes that she would stop me from falling…we both ended up in the bay. Both her Curve and my Pearl are gonners. New ones coming today.

Question is: Do you recommend using DM and the switch device feature…or just setting everything up as new and syncing to outlook? I am not sure how the switch device wizard works.

The switch device wizard will work. It backs up your existing BB and copies is (less the OS) onto the new. I don't think your will work after taking a bath in salt water, so the switch device may not work.

Switch device wiz IF your soaked BB powers up.

Dry it good and maybe it will... you will need 4-5 days of good drying.

If they are goners, no go.

Yea make sure your BB is dry before plugging it in, but I'm thinking it's not going to power on cause your battery is probably shot

HaHa! I was thinking the same exact thing.

My wife, on several occasions, has threatened my BlackBerry. I simply tell her whatever she does to my BlackBerry will be done 10 times worse to her.

Haha, I've done that once and saved a old phone of mine...that was awhile ago though and it wasn't a BB so please don't stone me!

Hey everyone...I got my new devices and did a restore to my wife's phone but none of her programs were restored. Like The google apps, and windows live search, gtalk etc... is this normal??

Tips on Saving a BlackBerry after falling into clean freshwater
1. IMMEDIATELY remove the battery.
Water is mostly harmless but water+electricity will ZAP the BlackBerry
2. Dry the BlackBerry for 1 week (fewer if using stable heat source such as windowsill or desklamp, or if opening the BlackBerry's casing)
3. Resist the temptation to test the BlackBerry while waiting for it to dry for 1 week (Or just 1-2 days if disassembled and placed under a warm lamp or sunny windowsill)
4. Finally, go ahead and test the BlackBerry.

Tips on Saving a BlackBerry after falling into Saltwater
1. IMMEDIATELY remove the battery.
2. IMMEDIATELY go to the nearest sink and rinse the saltwater. Swish the BlackBerry underwater for about 5 minutes to dissolve the corrosive water with the more harmless water. Saltwater eats circuits like acid, so pick the lesser poison to buy you time.
3. The freshwater rinse "buys" you some extra time. Go to nearest drugstore and get a bottle of distilled water. Re-rinse the BlackBerry in this to get remaining residues out.
4. NOTE: Steps 2 and 3 is easier if you partially disassemble by removing the BlackBerry casing (For most BlackBerries, use a Torx T5 screwdriver for this.) but don't delay Step 2 if you can't find the right screwdriver, get the saltwater out of the BlackBerry immediately: Saltwater is poison.
5. Dry the BlackBerry for 1 week (fewer if using stable heat source such as windowsill or desklamp, or if opening the BlackBerry's casing)
6. Resist the temptation to test the BlackBerry while waiting for it to dry for 1 week (Or just 1-2 days if disassembled and placed under a warm lamp or sunny windowsill)
7. Finally, go ahead and test the BlackBerry when done.

There has been a better than 50-50 chance of recovery/survival if the "IMMEDIATELY remove battery" step is followed.

Remember this...
Clean Water+Batteryless BlackBerry = mostly harmless

But:
Water+Electricity+BlackBerry = ZAP!

Cellphones are mostly plastic, metal and glass... Water doesn't harm those quickly, it's the addition of electricity to the mix that causes the short circuits and damage.... SO REMOVE THE BATTERY IMMEDIATELY if you happen to fall into water with the BlackBerry in your pocket. (Even if you forgot to, still try to recover the unit anyway if it was just freshwater exposure -- there are still chances it will still work. But if it was saltwater and did not get rinsed in the sink immediately, it's probably long gone by now)

Notes:
- DO NOT use a hairdryer
- DO NOT use microwave oven
- It is okay to use a stable non-blowing heat source below 180 deg F (a heat source that doesn't fluctuate: circuit board expansion will cause metal fatigue in the circuit traces and solder joints. etc.) such as the top of a radiator or inside a car parked in a sunny day. Circuit boards are designed to resist high storage heats such as accidentally leaving a cellphone in a hot car in a sunny parking lot; so please don't worry about drying using stable non-fluctuating heat sources as long as it's not above approximately 180 degrees F and the heat-up and cool-down is not ultra-rapid. It's the expansion-contraction caused by rapid temperature changes or localized heat spots (hairdryer) that will cause damage. In the best case, I was successfully able to reduce the 7 day drying period into just 2-3 hours when using controlled heat source for circuit-board-drying at 150-180 degrees (kitchen oven preheat, turned off, thermometer checked to be within 150-180 degree range, then put circuit board on paper towel and put in oven, carefully monitoring thermometer perched next to circuit board to make sure it never goes above 180 degrees. This was the BlackBerry motherboard of a water-damaged 7280 that had just been rinsed in distilled water, screen and casing set aside outside of oven. The rescue process was successful). Most people don't want to try to disassemble a BlackBerry, so that is why I recommend a 7 day drying period before reinserting the battery or plugging it in.

P.S. I made an occasional profit buying water-damaged devices (including BlackBerry) and fixing them through this means. Also some saavy cellphone repair shops collect up water-damaged phones and then when enough is collected, they snap off the casings, and run them through a dishwater (heat turned off, and a pinch of laboratory detergent). Once done, dries them for a week, and have reported that at least 50% started working again. And that's even with many of them that the original persons never removed the battery after water immersion. Resold these as refurbished cellphones with a money refund/warranty even.
