Default BESalert.exe process - running too high

Hi,

I have recently upgraded the BES from 4.0 SP1 to 4.0 SP3. I also took this opportunity to upgrade from Exchange 2003 SP1 to SP2. rebooted, all was well.

Few days later I run out of disk space. I found some massive log files in the RIM directory. The logs were created around the time I applied the updates above. There were 3 large log files covering a 3 day period sometime last week - the biggest was 10GB!

Anway, i deleted a few (leaving only the last 3 days logs) thinking I don't need historic logs. I reboot and now my BESAlert.exe process is running really high and hijacking the processor in waves every 10 seconds or so. See task manager screen shot attached

Can anyone shed any light on what is going on? has anyone else who has applied BES 4.0 SP3 and/or Exchange 2003 SP2 experienced this? There are no relevant entries in Event Viewer.

I tried stopping the process and the PC calmed down, restarted it and it's back to running high and low. Any suggestions greatly appreciated...

As far as I know this is a known issue with SP3. First of all do you even use the BES Alert service? If not you can probably get away with simply stopping that service and not running it. On the other hand if you do use it then I would suggest contacting your carrier or RIM directly as like I said this is a known issue.

It may not be the alert svc. I had the same issue with Domino and it pointed out key Domino Svcs --5 of them using a combined 3GB of Ram. This is the BB St DB pruning task. Turn it off and reboot....I am running 4.o Sp2 HF2 and they said it will be addressed in SP3 which I am currently testing.....
