Email using IMAP

Hi,
Im using the device simulator and I have 9630.
I got internet access via this mds stuff. Now I want to configure the email, so that it connects to a local imap server.
I havnt got emails working yet, but i suppose that is because i sent an email to the same email adress i sent it from.
Is there a way to connect to an imap server and not pop?
Or is it even possible to leave out the smtp server because I dont want to send any emails?
