Default BES service books

Please Login to Remove!

Hi

I'm trying to activate my BB with BES but my network operator, O2, has still got me on the BIS system since its asked me for my email account login and says "Welcome to BIS Email!" (Their explanation marks )

Is there somewhere which shows which service books one should have for a BES enabled device?

It currently starts with Desktop {BrowserConfig} and has 19 others

Thanks very much

Depending on how your BES admin has the policys set, by default a BlackBerry can be activated on a BES and a BIS at the same time with no problem. I am currently setup this way on my employers BES 4.1.4 and a BIS account for yahoo email.

The service books should look as followed if connected to a BES:
  • Desktop [BrowserConfig]
  • Desktop [SYNC]
  • Desktop [CMIME]
  • Desktop [MDS]
  • Desktop [BBIM]
  • Desktop [ALP]
  • Desktop [IPPP]
  • Desktop [CICAL]

The service books I have for the BIS account are:
  • you@email.com [CICAL]
  • you@email.com [CMIME]

Hope this information helps!

I have one additional question...Is there a proper way to do this (ie - have both BES and BIS)?

I wiped my handheld and activated it to our BES. When ever I would log into my BIS account to have the service books sent to my device, the service books never seemed to make it. When I wiped the handheld, logged into my BIS account and sent my service books, they were sent. I then activated onto the BES.

I am not sure if that is the proper way but that is the only way it seems for me to make it work. I believe I have the IT Policy enabled to allow BIS but I can't seem to find the proper documentation to answer my question fully.

What are your thoughts and experiences? Can anyone else chime in?

If the IT policy hasn't been modified at all, then by default it allows BIS. You should be able to set it up on the BB unless BIS has been specifically disabled via BES policy.

I am the admin, so the IT Policy was the default policy and let me tell you I was having a tough go of it today. I even forced some of the policies to true even though they were the default configuration because I wasn't sure. The one thing I did notice whenever I logged into Verizon's BIS site, is that it would take almost three or four minutes to send my BIS serivce books before it would finally say it was successful in transferring them. Once I had my BIS service books and then activated to BES, it was about 2 hours before I started getting mail from my BIS account. I guess maybe my problem was really with Verizon and because I am lacking in BES experience I thought it was something to do with BES and BIS not playing nice.

I have both BES and BIS working in harmony now. In a few months I am eligible to get a new device and was just trying to figure out in my head what needs to happen when I do move to the new device.

Thanks for your time!

One other thing, which policy actually prevents access to BIS? Is it the Third Party network access policies?

Thanks again for your time.
