Talking Newbie BES admin wiping out blackberries left & right

Please Login to Remove!

Really not that bad, but thankfully our head of sales backed up his contacts before I enterprise activated his blackberry!!

Let me a back up a minute here - our head of sales got tired of his Treo, so he went to the verizon store in the mall and picked up a new “world edition” blackberry. He was real proud that he had successfully setup his yahoo and personal SMTP email accounts, only thing he was missing was corporate email & calendar – so I say no problem, I have an extra BES license on the server, let me send you an activation code… so you can probably guess what happened next – activation was successful and everything looked excellent (Exchange Email & Calendar) but later in the afternoon (when I found out the service books were sent) he lost all his contacts and a bunch of icons including his yahoo & SMTP account!!

So stupid question from the BES newbie admin (me):

What is the difference between the service books Verizon sends out, and the default service books on my server? Can they co-exist?

p.s. running Exchange 2007 & BES 4.1.4.15 Express successfully with 3 other 8307e’s.

Thanks,
Bart

Welcome to the forums!

It sounds like perhaps your BES has an IT Policy that is restricting the BIS email accounts. When it does that, the icons for the BIS accounts will disappear.

Check the service books on his device - if the IT Policy is blocking the BIS accounts, they won't have checkmark but rather a circle with a line thru it.

Default thanks

Thank you very much! The BlackBerryFAQ had much of what I needed to get started.

Specifically the General BES Faq Section: Should I Upgrade...

and the BES Users FAQ

I searched before I posted, but missed the obvious FAQ option !! THX
