Reduce Transfer when Tethering

Since us Bell customers can now tether successfully, I've been trying to brainstorm some ideas on how to save bandwidth/transfer when connected. The $6/MB is really too expensive to be wasting.
Here is what I've come up with so far. Please use this list yourself or add to it so that we can reduce unnecessary internet usage.
- Email "Fetch headers only" in the email client
- Disable antivirus autoupdate
- Disable Windows Update
- Exit PopTray (my mail checking program)
