The main reason for upgrades is to get rid of bugs. If you upgrade to .51 you can use 2 gb microsd cards, .77 helps control memory leaks and so forth. It is reccomended that you upgrade to the latest OS. If you dont like it you can always go back to the older one.

Are the upgrades applicable to all networks (I'm on UK Orange)?

The steps to upgrade a BlackBerry have been posted many, many times and can EASILY be found when using the "Search" command. I've typed them so many times already..

Here you go (what the heck).

- Disconnect your BB from the PC.
- Download the latest version of the Handheld OS for your model BlackBerry (there is a thread listing them all)
- Execute the program you just downloaded
- Locate and delete Vendor.xml from your PC C: drive
- Connect the BB and restart desktop manager.

This works for any BB on any network.

Upgrades are a plus for stability. A minus is the time it will take to upgrade and re-install your backup.

On your PC, delete the handheld OS using Control Panel Add/Remove
Download the old version (assuming it is not on your PC)
Delete vendor.xml on your PC C: drive
Start Desktop Manager

It will ask if you want to downgrade.

Did you install the OS package to your computer? The vendor.xml file is created when you install the OS package. Delete it from the location that Dollars5 posted *AFTER* installing the OS package.

First of all t-mobile says if i upgrade they will not support my phone anymore.T-mobile may post an upgrade some time in the future.Any ideas like what kind of improvements i will see? Thank you all for your time chris

My Pearl says the version is 4.2.0.67. Should I upgrade? If I should, can someone guide me from where I can get the software? Thanks...

The latest version is v4.2.0.71. If you aren't having any problems, then I wouldn't mess with it. That particular version is available from Cingular. Check your other thread for the download locations...
