Default BES v5 and access to internal sharepoint content, has anyone done this?

Please Login to Remove!

This is one of my first posts.

Before we upgraded to BES v5, RIM had mentioned that there was a way to allow blackberries to access Microsoft SharePoint content from a company’s intranet. I have not seen or read much about this ability, but it would be great (a real boom to productivity) if our SharePoint of other specific internal content could be used directly from the device. I can think of so many applications we currently have to use windows mobile devices and an AT&T APN or a VPN client to tunnel into the internal network.

Has anyone ever tried to do this or something similar?

You should be able to access SharePoint content if you have the MDS-CS component enabled and support HTTP authentication enabled (if you require authentication to your SharePoint site). MDS-CS is what provides the pipeline back to your LAN from the blackberry. Browsing SharePoint from your blackberry won't be much different then from your windows mobile phone. You won't be able to do much more than actually read a site.

There are third party applications that give you full access to your SharePoint content, such as SilverDust, which support a range of features like calender intergration, workflow, document checkin/out/edit among many others. There is a link to SilverDust available in my signature.

Disclaimer: I do work for the company that provides SilverDust

This SilverDust application sounds intresting, I will take a look. I would realy like to get more use out of our devices. This ability could go along way to proving a higher ROI on the devices and allow for an expansion in my companies use of them. Thanks for the information.
