Default Is there something like a "HOSTS" file for the BB?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I have an 8700c through Cingular, and I'm on my company's Blackberry Enterprise Server. I'm trying to use PicoNews which needs to go through my company's network to resolve the hostnames "config.blacktouch.com" or "ap.piconews.com". For some reason, sometimes the names resolve, and sometimes they don't! I've put in service requests to resolve the problem, but the connection still comes and goes.

I have tried to set up TCP as per How to Configure Full Internet Access On BlackBerry and tried every combination of Internet/Cingular/Blackberry browser for both Default and MDS browsers with no luck.

If I were using a PC, I'd just add an entry to the HOSTS file to get around the problem, but don't know if I can or how to do this on a BB.

Is there a way to force the resolution of a server on the Blackberry?

TIA!

I'm not sure that adjusting your TCP settings is going to do much if you're on a BES.

Anyway, if you really think the names are not resolving, then you could just do a reverse DNS on those domains and use the IP address in the BlackBerry browser.

The problem is with an app (PicoNews), so I can't do that, but thanks for the suggestion.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry7130e/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

I have a related question....

Verizon 7130e with no BES.

Is there a way to have a hosts file block ad sites? Some html sites I visit have ads that take forever to load and it would be nice to bypass them. 3rd party software loaded to my device would be ok too.
