Default EDGE Just About Everywhere Except Here At Home

Please Login to Remove!

I've got an 8700c unlocked, and on the T-Mobile network. Though I really can't complain about the GPRS performance I'm seeing, I had an opportunity to do some driving around today, and yep - just about 1.5 miles from my house, it switches over to EDGE. What surprised me though, was that even in areas with a weaker signal strength than I get here at home, I was EDGE enabled. I thought there was some interdependency there, but apparently not. So, I guess I just wait for whatever it takes in terms of network expansion . . . or move.

Cheers all,

Yeah I must say that I can't complain for the performance of GPRS getting EDGE network (or deriving optimum performance & speed) may be a tricky issue. At certain places within my home I get EDGE at 85-95dB at others 50-60dB. I'd recommend getting your operator to send you the Service books again. That's what I was advised by my operator & after I did that everything is working seamlessly.

Tell me if it works for you.

Service books have been re-sent many times, and a rep did a "network reset". It appears that despite signal strength, I just can't hit and EDGE connection where I live. Driving down the road a bit, it locks on to EDGE, so I think it's just a mystery I'll have to live with for now. Thanks for the idea though.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry7230/4.0.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)

Just curious. Does EDGE service come at extra cost for those BB users whose BB's can use it? Or is it included in the price of the data plan?

EDGE is not an extra cost if you already have an active Blackberry data plan.

Devices that operate on EDGE networks: BlackBerry 7130c, BlackBerry 7130g, BlackBerry 8700c, BlackBerry 8700g, BlackBerry 8700r.

My CIO has the same issue, Tmobile Engineers are willing to put a repeater for him in his apartment in downtown, ny. However, there is this item worth looking into:Indoor Coverage Solutions
Spotwave's carrier-approved indoor coverage solutions seamlessly bring the outdoor signal inside xxx8211; ensuring your wireless devices work reliably indoors where they are being used more often.

SPOTWAVE | ZEN (Z1900) | Intelligent Indoor Wireless Coverage System – improve your cell phone coverage at home
How will I know if ZEN (Z1900) (Z1900) will improve my signal?
ZEN (Z1900) is a 1900Mhz intelligent repeater system that supports most carriers in North America using 1900Mhz frequencies. However in some regions where the the wireless carriers are using 800Mhz, ZEN (Z1900) will not be able improve the signal.
To ensure that our customers only buy a product that will work in their region, Spotwave will provide a handy online Verification Tool, based on a "ZIP Code" when the product becomes available.
WIll ZEN (Z1900) improve WiFi signals?
ZEN (Z1900) only improves coverage cellular phones, air cards, and mobile devices operating on licensed carrier networks. ZEN (Z1900) will not improve WiFi signals or cause interference with WiFi or any other wireless signals.

Rely on cell phones, PDAs and other mobile devices to work where you need them most xxx8211; indoors!
