Question 8520 Curve - IMAP Email Query

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I'm gonna say straight off - I'm an iPhone user (please don't start digging into me for this!) so that's where my experience lies - I have used BlackBerries briefly before, but not much. I'm a techie by hobby so Windows stuff is fine to run by me, but BlackBerry-related things may need explaining.

My mum has just received a BlackBerry 8520 Curve on a contract. It's her first smartphone, having used traditional handsets since, well, she's used a phone.

I have her set up on an IMAP email account, this works perfectly fine except that the folders are all prefixed (so INBOX.Inbox, INBOX.Sent etc - you get the gist).

I use the same server for my email on my iPhone - on there, you can literally set any setting you want - port, prefix, preferred folders etc.

From what I can tell on the BlackBerry, you can set the address, password, server, whether to use SSL or not, your name, and the signature, and that's pretty much it. No option to edit the prefix.

I've done all the updates that I can see, it's now on 5.0.x, and it's fully up to date.

It can send emails fine, and it receives new emails, but it doesn't seem to be able to look at other folders - when I go to view folders, it has Inbox, and a Spam subfolder.

I'd appreciate some help on this - I heard that you can configure more advanced email settings through the Desktop Manager, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

Thanks again,

James

BIS doesn't "do" folders.
It will push email from the inbox only, and may, depending on the email provider reconcile the sent messages.

Oh, that's a shame.

Is there an app on App World that does emails a little better (in my personal opinion) than the standard client? Preferably free...

It's not a major thing, would just help that's all.

Nope.
Its not the app on the phone that handles email that way; its the primary service from RIM for personal push email.

Hmm. OK I get you.

Bit of a shame really, but I guess it must work otherwise people wouldn't buy them. Me, personally I prefer to see all my emails, but it does slow things down.

My mum isn't a big email user anyway, so no worries I guess.

Cheers for your help MidnightDraven.
