Re: BlackBerry 9900 Unlocking Instructions
Hi, does anyone know if these instructions worked?
We were under the impression that you had to follow the longer instructions that work for the Torch 9800. i.e.:
1. Turn on the Blackerry Bold 9900 with a non accepted SIM card
2. Go to Menu > Options > Device > Advanced System Settings > SIM Card
3. Type MEPD
4. Type MEP (Alt) 2
5. Enter the unlock code when requested and press the jog key

MEPD works on the 9900, MEP2 doesn't in some OS builds so you can't enter the code. The safest way is booting the handset with a different sim to the carrier lock and a menu would pop up.
Your stats indicate you're on tmobile uk, pop a voda, orange or 3 sim in. Even a cheap/free PAYG sim would do.

3) Enter yes and phone will say "Enter Network MEP code (255 left)
does that mean no more left now? Just bought one yesterday, yes i'll give it 2-3 days.
EDIT: Thanks!

Re: BlackBerry 9900 Unlocking Instructions
Silly question:
1- If i use the SIM card of a friend to boot on it, after following the instruction will the sim card (of my friend) will still be good for use with his carrier or will it kill the card?
2- I also have another card, brand new not activated to any carrier, can i use it (to unlock)?
thanks
p.s. never unlock any phone before so n00b

Hi!i have a huge problem with my new bb9930. I decided to buy online unlocked phone, instead of going into cntract.well,i got the phone,i can call and text, but BIS doesnt work. The phone itself is verizon. I checked with tmobile couple times (called, live chatted and went to the store) noone undestood what's wrong. I had bb9780 before, that's why my plan does have bis. Re: BlackBerry 9900 Unlocking Instructions
No, your device is unlocked, but T-Mobile USA doesn't have service books for the 9930, so it will never work properly as it stands. My recommendation is to return it and get a 9900. the 9900 will work properly and also function on T-Mobile's 3G network.

Re: BlackBerry 9900 Unlocking Instructions
I'm an amateur user but all this seems kinda unnecessary.
I called AT&T and said I wanted the unlock code for my 9900 and they gave it to me. The girl even walked me through the couple steps for how to unlock it once I get the new SIM card.
I didn't have to pay anyone or use tricky reset stuff.

Re: BlackBerry 9900 Unlocking Instructions
That's great! Good for you. Many carriers won't give out the codes, and many people have bought locked BlackBerrys and don't have a carrier they can call for an unlock.

Re: BlackBerry 9900 Unlocking Instructions
Ok, i have a locked bb9900 with OS7.1, my carrier is etisalat. I was going through the points above and thought of putting a sim from another carrier to see what happens.
When my phone booted, it took me directly to a BB service log in area where it asks me to log in to my bb app service.
Should I first wipe my phone before I think of unlocking it to avoid this situation? or a phone can be unlocked in any other way?
Please help.

Your device is not unlocked and you are trying to use a different provider.

From what I understand, MTN does not support the 9930, so I don't think you can register it on their network. Besides, MTN has discontinued BIS for new subscribers, you would need to ask about their Absolute pack, or one of their tiered PAYG plans.

Dear all, I ordered an unlocking code for my BB 9800 yesterday and I was supposed to get the code in less than an hour since I did the transaction during business hour. Can anybody please let me know when and how I will receive the code?
