Hey folks,

I received a new sim card with my bb bold. I took my old one from my two year old nokia flip. What benefit would I get from using the new sim card?

If the new one is not activated, then just keep the old that already has your account info provisioned. Unless the old one is not a 3G SIM card.

I haven't activated the new one.

How do I know whether the old one is NOT a 3G SIM card?

I am on the BB UL personal email plan. I don't have a browsing data plan, although I do surf via wifi.

Put the old one in and see if you get a 3G icon in the upper right next to your signal indicator.

Okay, I get the 3G icon in the right hand corner.

What is the advantage of keeping the new sim card? Aside from having a replacement if I lose my current one, or it gets damaged somehow.

If the sim card is old (over 2 years ) you'll usually get drops calls alot

Yup, really old SIM cards sometimes cause problems. Back in the day, when the Curve was the new hotness, I tried and tried to get it to work with T-Mobile. I installed the only carrier's OS that would allow the proper service books with T-Mo, but it wasn't until I got a new SIM card from T-Mo that I got my browser icons. If it's old enough, the SIM card can make a difference.

Does it matter? My SIM is 8+ years old and it seems to work fine in my Bold! I get 3G and all the goodness... weird.

That means that the SIM is 3G compatible. Some aren't.

I've NEVER seen or heard anything conclusive that "old" SIM cards drop calls, or cause male pattern baldness or anything else. True, new 3G cards are required for 3G, but SIM cards have been known to work for years and years with no issues.
