I just purchased my BlackBerry Tour cellphone. I am familiar with palm desktop manager that allows you to manage data, contacts, dates on the pc then syc them to the palm. Is there software that comes with the phone that does that. I can't find it if there is. Any help?

I use Google Sync, though. No wire.

DM will sync but you need an app to sync with (such as the already-suggested Outlook). There is no Palm Desktop equivalent.

Thanks, as far as I can see Blackberry desktop manager only syncs the data it doesn't to allow manage or edit it. If my understanding is wrong then how do you manage or edit or change the data inside the desktop manager?

Again... Outlook. The big picture is:

BlackBerry <-> Desktop Manager <-> Outlook

This is for a Windows machine. On a Mac, you have iCal/Address Book or Entourage.

There are other options. I thought Lotus??? I know some people use Act!!!! But in terms of Desktop Manager, Outlook is the best option

Yeah, there probably are other options, but I agree that Outlook would be the best choice.

I actually have Outlook installed on my PC for that sole reason. I only used web based mail clients

The above two links are to an organizer and sync'ing software. They, however, are not free as Outlook would be. Just another option for those who try to avoid using MS solutions wherever possible.

One free choice if you're always online is syncing to Yahoo. Yahoo syncs contacts, calendars, tasks, and the notepad.

I happen to use Google's offerings since it syncs calendar and contacts over the air, but for syncing via Desktop Manager, Yahoo is a free option. Outlook is good if you have it, but may not be worth buying just to sync the phone.

I haven't updated or entered a calender entry in Outlook in about 2 years. It's actually just a backup now as Google Calendar is where I edit or enter from a PC. Contacts I sometimes edit in Outlook, but mainly I do that on the phone.

Outlook is not free. It's part of most Microsoft Office Suites but not all. It can also be purchased separately. Most notibly, it's not included in Office Home and Student (the version many people will have if they purchased only for home use).

However, I also (as most others above have) endorse the use of Outlook as the best choice to manage your contacts on the PC. You will also most likely be able to use it in the future with other phones if you ever go away from BB. I used it for years with various phones including Nokias, Windows Mobile, etc. I still use it with my Droid although I had to purchase Companion Link to sync Outlook to my gmail.
