Okay, so I had done a little reading on iPhone Data Plans with BBs and it seemed like they got along fine as long as you were willing to sacrifice all the uniquely BB stuff like Push email and enterprise connections. I had no problem with that. So I ordered a 7130c on ebay for the low price for $48. I pop my iPhone sim card in it and it works fine except says:
"Data Connection Refused"
and to my surprise there was no browser in the phone. So I found out that the browser doesnt show up unless you have a BB plan and youd need opera on there to browse. So I through one on and let it try to automatically setup the connection after a few minutes it failed. I checked the APN info and it is correct for the Cingular that should work on AT/T as well. I feel like I may just be missing something pretty easy. Any help would be appreciated.
The iPhone data plans won't work, you found out the hard way.
OM works sometimes and doesn't others. Give it a few days. On more than one occasion I have seen it take a day or three for the APN to connect and work with OM.
Still didnt work, but Ill go ahead and keep with the BB for a week or so to see if it switches over. Im not sure if I mentioned it but this is really just a backup phone since I do a lot of JBing and random hacks on my iPhone. I figured $48 for a backup phone is a decent deal plus if I ever got the iPhone Data Plan to work on it, it would be an extremely good deal. I also wanted to see if it was the iPhone or AT&T in general that is responsible for my poor reception in certain areas.
The 7130 is about three - four BlackBerry generations old. You might have gotten a 8700 for the same money and had a better device for backup data, etc.
Jail Breaking. What you have to do to install third party apps not from App Store. The 8700 is about $70 to $100. Like I said, solely a backup phone. If I were to ever lose the iPhone and warranty I would probably invest in a better one or a Treo.
