OK. I know I need to get used to managing profiles in the new OS. Some employees have the Storm and I knew they were changing.
However, I am having a tough time with a couple items. Specifically, I believe that some applications may not handle the new OS properly.
I have changed profiles and adjusted things to match what I had. They didn't transfer over via BES when I did enterprise activation like they did before. I suspect they will from now on if I change to another device for some reason.
Is anyone having a change made in one profile be made across all profiles? If not, then this is an application issue. (IBM Lotus Sametime 8.0.2)

Wirelessly posted (Its All About the U!)
There seems to be an issue. For now, I would recommend that users wanting more than one profile set it up from scratch. I have one called quiet

I spent time yesterday trying to figure out how to customize each profile to finally realize that you can't. When I choose "Vibrate", even applications that I have set to have vibration off, vibrate. I spoke to Verizon who connected me to RIM and they CLAIM that my profiles are corrupt, as I should be able to customize them all...yet none of them have gone to a class or are familiar with the OS 4.7 profiles versus OS 4.5 and my brother's Tour is exactly the same way. He can't edit his either...there's just ONE SET of settings for ALL profiles. In order to get things working properly the way I want them too, I've had to set up a custom profile for each one of my preferences. Quite annoying, but at least there's a "workaround."

They really screwed this up. The old profile system was better. Hope they fix this too on the next update.
Edit: After reading on crackberry about the profiles...
http://crackberry.com/customize-soun...lackberry-tour
It made me not want to get the tour. Guess I get to wait some more. lol

Hasn't the Storm also had this problem since day 1? I don't think it will be fixed in the next build. It just is how 4.7 works.

Very Strange.
I just edited some profile settings. Specifically for Level 1/PIN messages to test this.
I sent a level 1 message from our paging system to the device in each profile. If you look at the settings in each profile, they all look the same. Like they should all behave the same. However, when I sent the messages, the phone behaved as expected. Loud as hell in loud, medium volume in medium and normal, vibrated only in vibrate, LED only in silent, nothing in no notification at all in All alerts off, and my custom setting in my custom profile I have.
After reading the Crackberry article. I get the changes and I guess in a way they are good. I was a custom profile user anyway, so I have mine built and it works fine.
A reminder - if you want to edit your custom profile, you have to go to "Custom Profiles" then edit it from there. If you think you are editing by activating the profile and then changing settings, you aren't. You are changing them for the canned profiles.
The more I mess around with it, the more I actually like it this way. I used to have a spreadsheet to keep track of profiles on my Curve!
One thing I DO definitely miss was the "Do Not Disturb" setting for phone. I used this in my silent profile so the phone instantly went to voice mail like you hit "ignore".

As I said, for now, create your own customized profile. It is an OS bug

Are you sure you picked the right email account (if you have more than one)?
My advice is to think "Normal" profile and make your changes. Then, the Blackberry will adjust volume and turn to vibrate or off as you chose different profiles. For example, in Normal, there is no alert for email, even though it looks like there is. When you change to Loud or Medium, the chosen alert works. Normal, vibrate, quite, phone only, etc, it turns that alert off.
If you want something completely different, you have to make a custom profile.

Just got off the phone with RIM Tech Support for our organization.
Explained serveral scenarios to the tech. He was attentive and understood the issues and was able to explain how it is "supposed" to work, which we have essentially outlined here and how it is explained on Crackberry.
He is now going to go get a Tour and reproduce the scenarios I explained to him and get back to me with his results.
I will advise what I find out.

It's not a bug, it's a feature.

At least the speaker blast and beeping every 5 minutes during calls "feature" from OS 4.5x is not present in this OS. Can you imagine if RIM made home alarm systems?

2 samuel 2 I tried those settings for my email notifications but am unable to change them. I cannot get the vibrate to work, nor can I change the tone for incoming emails, altough I can for incoming phone calls. Bizarre?

Sound Profiles in OS 4.7x are quite different. Instead of being able to customize each individual profile to your liking, the "Normal" profile is the one preloaded profile you can customize. The six other preloaded profiles represent a change to your "Normal" profile selections. They cannot be edited, deleted or renamed. They only change the behavior of your "Normal" profile.
For example, set your BB to the "Normal" profile. Customize it with specific ringtones and save. If you change your sound profile to "Loud", your BB will continue to use your specified ringtones from "Normal" but the volume will be loud (max volume). "Medium" will decrease volume to Medium and in these two profiles, your custom vibrate settings remain the same as set in "Normal". The "Silent" profile however, will be no sounds or vibration alerts.
Vibrate Only overrides the Normal profile and all your alerts will vibrate only.
Phone Calls Only will cause your BB to ring or vibrate using the settings you specified in "Normal", all other alerts will be silent.
All Alerts Off will disable all audible and vibrate settings.
If you prefer the old school style of Profiles, you must create individual Custom Profiles.

There are two things I really don't like about 4.7 profiles...
First is that under 4.5 and earlier, there was a shortcut to the profiles selector. As I got into bed, I could just hit the call end button to go to the home screen, press the "F" key to bring up the profile menu, and choose the Phone Only profile. Reverse that in the morning. Why did they get rid of the "F" key shortcut? (I know I can assign it to one of the side convenience keys, but after using BlackBerrys for 10 years, I sort of got used to certain things).
Second is that when I create my custom profiles, they get listed below the built-in profiles. I don't need all of their profiles, and if I can't truly customize them, then I would love to delete them and just have my customs. Now, since they are all there, I have to scroll down to find mine. I know it's such a small thing, but it's something I change often, and it will always annoy me.

I am having trouble getting my custom profile to work.
I set ringtones and alerts within the custom profile (mainly to lower the volumes), then I selected the custom profile to be active. However, the alerts still come in just as loud as the Normal profile.
What am I missing?

Me too. I have spent far to much time trying to set up custom profiles for email and phone calls so am taking my Tour back to Verizon tomorrow and let them figure it out.
