I know that many people have posted regaarding this problem, but I have hit the point of having to perform a battery pull once a day.
Right after a reboot I have about 5.4MB free and I will typically run out of memory within 4-6 hours of regualr use. (Some SMS, some chat, some browsing.)

I have all pictures going to the SD card, I only have 13 third party apps installed the 5 core apps, and the 14 Add-on Apps that comes pre-loaded on the system.

I do have most of the Google Apps and I certainly find that if I use them (Map, Synch, Gmail, Search) the memory dribbles away at an alraming rate.

Has anyone been able to come up with either a work around, or am I just an idiot in not knowing how to configure my device?

Of course your problem is you only have 5.4MB after a battery pull. That is too little to begin with. I don't know what is a minimum range for the new devices. For the older 64MB devices, you didn't want to get below about 12MB after a battery pull. Beyond that, I don't know what to advise. I guess I'd take a closer look at the sizes of those 13 third-party apps. Are you using up all that memory with apps? Have you downloaded a bunch of themes?
