My blackberry 9500 has 4.7.0.181 software. Can I use v5.0 to update it? Is it compatible?

Check the yellow sticky t the top of the 9500 section. The latest software releases are there. Keep in mind that the OS is device specific. Since, according to your profile, you have a 9500, therefore you must use an OS for the 9500, not 9520 or 9530, etc. In addition, the instructions for how to do it are there as well. Follow them exactly and be patient. It can take an hour or longer to run. And don't forget to make a back up before you begin!

But a bit of advice, if your device is working as you want and need, it might not be broken doesn't require fixing with an OS update. The Forums are full of upgrades gone wrong.
