Default Mailbox Agent setting itself to wrong server

Please Login to Remove!

hello all. i am in 6 weeks of trying to get a new user EA OTA on our BES. The users' account happens to be mine. I have tried wiping/deleting BES account, changing sync fields, you name it.

I have 15 users who work successfully every day, thankfully, but I cannot add any new users. When I attempt to re-add my own Exchange account, the "Mail Server" entry under my users properties in BES is blank, and my 'Mailbox Agent' is now showing '2' instead of '1' (as is for all other working users). We have added a new E2k7 server to the environment but there are no (as in 0) accounts added to the E2k7 server as of yet. I still verified the BES services account has all the correct rights to both the E2k3 and E2k7 mail stores.

Question: how/why does E2k7 trump E2k3 and make itself take precedence over E2k3 in regards to how BES adds new mail/user accounts? How do I avoid this and push my account back to Mailbox Agent '1'?

There are some significant issues going on over here on this BES that I've inherited, but this being number one on my list I would appreciate any responses.
((On the phone with RIM techs again right as I write this; this will put me over the 25 hour mark on phone support with them for this issue)).

TIA,

The BES assigns a user to an agent as it sees fit. The fact that you were assigned to number 2 doesn't make a difference, it's the BESs way of load balancing itself.

A BES can have 5 agents in total.

What error(s) do you see in the MAGT log when you try to acticvate?

Also, you have provided this to RIM but:

1. BES Version
2. MAPI32.dll/CDO.dll verisons on both Exchange and BES
3. What other issues do you have going on right now?

When you try to EA do you get the ETP email in your inbox?

The MAGT log is your best bet for finding the issue.

I don't know what you mean by Exch07 trumping Exch03 when adding new users, it doesn't. If you don't have any users on Exch07, how did you come up with that analogy?

thanks, Gibson.
BES is 4.1.4 with MR5 installed.
mapi32.dll/cdo.dlll are matching versions as i've verified these repeatedly in my attempts to fix this (i apologize but it's late and i don't feel like logging on to get the exact version numbers).
"other issues" simply means my eventvwr on the BES is spammed repeatedly with event id's:
30463
20179
50079
(these numbers are now drilled into my brain).

None of them make much sense because if you read them, and believe them, then this BES does not work at all and no user can get anything from this BES with their handhelds. This is obviously not true as my 15 daily users (heavy-hitting attorneys with tons of items, and their paralegals with said same) would be lighting my ass on fire right now. I'm simply trying to make sense of it all before something really hairy happens here. All I need to do is add a new user with a new BB handheld. FIN.

As per my previous post, the RIM call i was on at that moment was 'mysteriously' disconnected and i've heard nothing back from them yet and have not tried to call in again.

the MAGT log I have not yet truly scoured as it simply reflects what eventvwr says; ServerDN not established, User not started - may restart after ScanGAL, etc etc.
Q: is there any place any where to look up those 'iDispatch' error codes???

I "assumed" the E2k7 was 'trumping' E2k3 as Mailbox Agent 2 because before this environment had an E2k7 box, Mailbox Agent 2 never existed/populated/entered itself into the picture.

FYI ~ Both the E2k3 and E2k7 boxes are on VMWare servers.

I've sexto-checked the Services account rights and all is good there.
I've verified my mailbox (which is the 'new' user I am trying to add here) is/was/always has been only a member of the E2k3 Server (which is what the BES connection relies on).

Thanks for the reply; I'm willing to try anything at this point.

Thx,

Does this issue happen for anyone you add or just yourself? If not, try adding someone else and see if you get that error. What happens if you try creating a new user on Exch07 and add them to the BES?

Have you tried the simple step on resolving both Exchange Server names in the MAPI profile?

Were there any changes recently in AD? Were there any changes to your account? Is there anything different about your account? Mailbox store?

What steps have you taken with RIM? I just don't want to go over things you've already done.
