Opera Mini Web browser feedback
Please Login to Remove!
Hi, I'm Daniel from Opera Software.
Looking around in the forums here I notice that many of you are using the Opera Mini Web browser.
I'd like to get some feedback from you on how we could improve and enhance the browsing experience on Opera Mini. In addition, I'd like to know which new features and capabilities would be useful.
I'm collecting all the feedback over at Opera Watch. Please send me your feedback. Thanks.

Tabbed/windowed browsing, like Opera Mobile for Wm5 has, would be pretty awesome.

Welcome to the forums.
I love opera. I would like to be able to input text into feilds without having to click the text box to go into a text screen and then select it. Just seems like too many steps. Other than that. I LOVE IT!

With the last beta version, I was able to access my bank online. After the final release, no more. Can the security be adjusted again so I can access my bank online?

The biggest feature, without a doubt, which is the single reason I don't use Opera Mini on my Blackberry, is to allow data to use BIS data, rather than requiring us to enter APN settings.
The carrier I'm on (O2 UK) charges for all non-Blackberry data.

Tabbed browsing, be able to enter text directly. Would love to be able to make Opera the default browser, but am told this is impossible.

I must it is nice to see a company take initiative.
The only thing I could request is the ability to copy out some lines from a web page, I.e. When I go to a website and need/want the address or phone number, just some way to get the information on a Opera page into a Memo for my Blackberry. Or maybe also the switch application feature.

Thanks for posting and asking. I follow Opera Mini on the OM forums and one thing that has come up over there is preventing me from using OM. If you read this forum using the New Posts link, then try to mark the forums read, you can't do it. The Quick Links opens a drop down list where you select the Mark Read link. OM does not allow you to select individual links in that drop down. I think this is referred to as the "anchor link" problem -- not sure though. Because of this I've gone back to the BB browser.

I'd like to see keyboard shortcuts done with the BB keyboard(s) in mind rather than with a phone keyboard. Top/Bottom is generally #3, I believe, but on my Curve that means hold down the Alt key, hit Q, hit R, release Alt. As a shortcut it's not very short (or Alt-leftshift for numlock, then Q R). I suppose I could just put the phone on numluck while using Opera, but that seems unintuitive.
I'll second the requests for "native" input as well, though I suspect that's a harder issue to deal with.

Fantastic Software! Keep it up! I use it daily!
I think people's comments are right on so far.
would love:
tabbed browsing, shortcuts to work on bb correctly and maybe even be more bb specific, I continue to get the error that says too much data has gone through in a session but shouldn't as I have unlimited data (this is HUGE as you have to restart the browser), copying text from the page would be great, ability to type directly in a field, some sites still see Opera Mini as a mobile browser and I would love to be able to totally remove that so it always loads full pages.

I wouldn't mind a easy way to reorder my speed dial bookmarks. After you set a speed dial to a specific number it's a lot of work to reorganize them and move them around to different speed dial numbers.

I'd also like to see a way for Opera Mini to open locally-saved HTML documents - I'm sure it's doing some local "filesystem" access already, so I suspect this wouldn't be that hard to add.

Tip: if you want to solicit suggestions on forums, don't do it with a link to another place. Users likely won't bother to go sign up elsewhere just to answer your survey question.
The main thing I'd like to see is the browser actually work reliably. I have tried it in the various v4 betas, and then the v4 final release, and the network connection failures made it unusable. Setting the APN doesn't make any difference. Load a page, maybe it works. It refresh, it fails. Refresh a few more times and eventually it loads. Then hit refresh again and it fails again. Success to fail ratio for virtually every website tried was on the order of 80% fail/20% success. In the end, I gave up and have simply removed Opera Mini from my 8320.
If you do get it working, then the thing that would be most useful for me is the ability to download within Opera Mini, rather than having to fork out to the native Blackberry browser.

When browsing forums, like this one, the link that's supposed to take you to the first unread post never works (had not worked in v3 either). It brings you to the top of the correct page, but not to the post. You have to scroll to find the actual first new post.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 8100 Pearl: BlackBerry8100/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)
I've installed OM3 and 4 on my pearl and neither on will connect to the net. With the firewall enabled, it keeps telling me that it's trying to connect both inside and outside the firewall, and won't connect at all with the firewall disabled. I had no problems running it on my old 7100t, but no joy on the pearl. When it worked, I liked it, but I'm pretty sour on it now.

@Daniel,
It looks like the last server upgrade fixed this problem I noted previously. Thanks.

This Verizon User has memory leak issues with the program. I often need to do battery pulls. Hopefully, future upgrades will better stabilize the program.

I've seen posts w/that same issue noted, and one evening when I decided to try using Opera to read these forums (I had installed it some time before but not used it much) I had a huge drop in memory (first time I had gone down to around 8 or 9 MB). Haven't used it since...this was in December, if I remember correctly.
