Default Im a blackberry wi-fi rookie

Please Login to Remove!

Hi guys,

I am trying to use Wi-Fi on my new BB 8900 but I don't know how to. I have read many tutorials but the layout is completely different? I do not have a set-up wi-fi option. All I have is Wireless LAN ---> Search for networks. What is going on?

I tried connecting earlier on today by doing this: Wireless Lan ----> Search for networks ----> Then I chose a my home connection ----> entered password ----> Failed to connect. Why??

Why is my layout completely different. I look for tutorials on how to do this but they mention something about Manage Networks ----> Set-up Wi-Fi. But I cannot do that?

Additional Message

The only browser my phone has is the Opera Mini and whenever I open it it says Failed to connect to the internet. And why do I have Opera Mini as my browser? How am I suppose to browse the ineternet since OperaMini will only allow access to the internet if Im on a plan. HELP!!

Go to connections manager. Then to setup wifi connection. Scan, add the key, etc. To connect.

Opera mini 4 had a wifi option. Dl that version and you'll be ok.

To use the default browser, go to options>advanced>browser. Set everything you can to hotspot. They should now work with wifi.

However, this will not allow you to access RIM apps like FB, Twitter, App world, etc. You still need a dataplan for them

Thank you dank,

but I do not have an option button :O

therefore I cannot go to options ----> advance settings ----> browser

infact, I dont even have a browser besides Opera.

And Im still baffled at why my layout is completely different to the ones I've seen in videos, tutorials.

Thanks again!

You don't have an "Options" icon? Should be the one with a wrench picture. Make sure you aren't hiding any of your icons.

Are you sure you have a real BlackBerry and not some weird Chinese knock-off?

I had that feeling too. The wirless lan option sounds a bit knock-off-ish.

no its not a chinese cheapo one. Its the real thing. I don't have options but I have settings...

Anyway I've managed to get my Wi-Fi working, thank you all for your contribution. But for some reason I am getting charged for accessing the internet. But Im sure all I have to do is set the things to hotspot.

Thanks aagain
