Few years ago, I developed an application to parse IPD file and upload to an internal site for backup. Now I need support the encrypted IPD file.

I opened and looked the encrypted ipd file, the structure is different with the original one.

I searched on internet, not enough information there, it just mentioned that the encryption used AES 256bits with CBC mode.

But the questions I have are:
. What's the structure of encrypted ipd file. It seems like the encryption is not based on the whole file.

. Since it is password based encryption, the key requires 32 bytes, hows the key composed (password + ????)
. What's the initial vector used for encryption?
. What's padding? is it Nopadding? I guess so, since the encrypted IPD file is just a little bit bigger than the original one

Can anyone answer these questions?

I beleive RIM has documented the IPD encryption system, but the distribution for the relevent documents may be limited.

The normal way to get a symetric key from a password is to hash the password with a sault then cycle the hash some number of times. The sault may do you in. They are probably using encrypor/decryptor factories and PKCS5 encoding which will take care of the supplying and recovering the IV.
