RIM inches closer to releasing BlackBerry in China
(SinoCast via NewsEdge) BlackBerry creator Research in Motion (RIM) will build up its presence in China when tests on the service currently held in Beijing are completed.
BlackBerry has faced several obstacles during the past years when it tried to enter the market, including difficulty of locating servers and high prices.
Canadian vice consul Tina Shih said that the Canadian embassy in Beijing has been "talking" with Chinese telecom watchdogs and telecom carriers on plans to introduce the BlackBerry in China.
"The related parties, including China Mobile, the biggest mobile telecom carrier in this country, are testing the equipment and only some technical problems are left," said Shih, who declined to reveal more details, including the date of the test completion.
Blackberry enables users to stay connected with wireless access to email, corporate data, phone and Web. It is already available in most Asian countries.
RIM broke into the Indian market two years ago with three BlackBerry models, partnering with mobile service provider AirTel.
