Default Questions about the storm...

Please Login to Remove!

I am looking at a balckberry storm (2) on craigs list... I am a Tmo customer

most importantly, should i get the phone? do you like it, should i keep looking for another phone / eventually get the nexus one.. etc

now the other real questions :

first off, i know this is a long shot, but will UMA work? - it has wifi, but does it have the hardware needed for UMA?

Next, what model number is this (9530, 9520, 9550...?)

Last, i thought verizon didn't use sim cards! so how is it that i can put a GSM card in and it will work (provided that i unlocked it....)

UMA will not work. UMA only works on T-Mobile with T-Mobile branded phones.
If it is a Verizon Storm 2 it will be a model 9550 - if it is a Storm it is the model 9530
Verizon Storms DO have SIM cards, as they use GSM as well as CDMA

It will only work on EDGE on T-Mobile (no 3G) and no UMA.

Make sure you read this FAQ article. Even though it discusses buying a BB from eBay, it applies to buying any used phone. Buying a BlackBerry off eBay - BlackBerryFAQ

You need to make sure the ESN/IMEI is clean and the PIN has been released.

Ah, thanks for pointing out that FAQ! that answered a few questions i didnt know i had (lol..)

I got an email about 10 min ago from the guy saying that he *just* sold the phone... so it looks like this was nothing more than a learning exercise :/ .

Thanks anways! Im going to keep looking for a newer BB on craigs list - hopefully ill find a GSM version so i wont have to hassle with most of this.

thanks again!

Other question:

if rodgers supports UMA, will a rodgers branded handset work with tmobile?

Also, i have some fairily technical questions that might be agains the forum rules; they deal a great deal with certain unauthorized tools used to debrand a blackberry... If such questions are permitted here, where is the best place / who is the best person to ask?

No. You can ONLY use a T-Mobile branded handset on T-Mobile for UMA. That hasn't changed since post #2.

Don't bother asking fairly technical questions regarding a certain unauthorized tool. Against forum rules and flaming may result. YMMV.

Call RIM and ask them how to use the software. They wrote it.
