It means nothing for 9530 customers. It is a different device (radio) with a different carrier. I'm sure Verizon will offer you nothing as the 9520 is not CDMA.

9530 users could sit back and watch a movie on their Storm while in flight.

Yep....Although a lot of programs now offer location based upon A-GPS (google maps for example)...so I wonder how accurate you need it to be if you're not using it specifically for navigation...

I saw this and got flustered. My wife wants to get me a 9530 and unlock it. Im on Att so the idea of gsm 3g on the storm is nice. I know this wont come out for ATT due to the iphone since thats their money maker. But id much rather have GPS then wifi anyday of the week. A wifi and gps version with 3g would be perfect. So for now I really think im still going to pick up a 9530 then if anything else comes along sell it and pick up something else.

First of all, the Storm for Verizon IS 3G on Verizon's network. I don't know what that other guy is talking about, his info says he has Verizon as the carrier. Anyway, there is a At&t version of the Storm coming about mid 2009
with wi-fi.

ouch! that sucks ... the Blackberry Storm is still one hell of a device, and soon the apps will make it that much better ... with an unlimited data plan what's the point of wifi anyways?

People say its faster than EVDO. Even Rev A.
The other thing is it supposedly drains your battery quick.
From Verizon's side, it would take some strain off 'the Network' if some poeple used wi-fi.
Well, LTE is coming so........

I believe WIFI would be a huge battery drain on the storm and possibly compromise the user experience. I agree with you, LTE is coming and when that becomes available there will really be no need for WIFI.

Hmmm could this mean that TMO will soon get this device, anything wifi finds its way to TMO, and IMO they are really overdue, they will release the 8900 in Feb, but thats not in par with the big boys, storm, bold, iphone. I am really happy w my 9530. using My 9530 on TMO network, minus 3g, wifi, favs. but everthing else is fine. browser, email, and a really nice TMO Wap icon.

Disabling GPS until it is necessary is a good way to save battery life
