Newbie Help Needed: WiFi
Please Login to Remove!
Ok, new to the 8900. My service provider is Cincinnati Bell, and my wireless network is set up using a 2wire modem through at&t. I called 2wire to make sure everything was ok, told the tech that I had two computers on wifi, and when I connect with my blackberry, I lose signal. He said everything looked good, yet boosted my power from 4 to 10.. and changed the channel.
Problem still exists.
So, this is the issue. Wifi seems to work fine at work using the WiFi there. When I come home, and login to my home network, I lose WiFi very often, and UMA doesn't stay on for long.
1. I have my network preferences set to " Wifi Preferred"
2. I set up new wifi, my blackberry recognizes my wifi router, and I type in the key code.
3. Everything says successful
4. 5-10 mins later... wifi becomes grayed out... and the EDGE logo picks back up
5. I am running app version 4.6.1.133 (217)
I am about 20 feet away from the router at the moment... my phone just had EDGE logo showing, and the wifi was fully bright... but no UMA... and I am sure in a few minutes UMA will pop up.. but usually both wifi and UMA will fall out.
Any suggestions? Is 4.6.1.133 known to have any issues?

What security method are you employing with your wireless router?
Have you tried manually setting your connection?. . . you may need to manually configure your network settings, to include the Gateway IP address and DNS address in order to allow full internet functionality.

I am using WAP? Where would I find the gateway IP address and DNS address to put into the blackberry? I assume I would just log into my router via the web based log-in?

UPDATE - I upgraded to .206, and WiFi/UMA is working fine now. I don't think boosting the the router solved the problem because nothing changed until after the update. So if any of you are having wifi issues, try the .206 update.

no wifi connection
Hi there,
I have the same problem. I have a 8900 curve (javelin) and i see my router but i don't get the ip adress from my router. The wifi logo is greyed out and there is no wifi connection for surfing with the browser.
I use a netgear wrn3500 wireless N Router, maybe thats the problem because on other forems i saw a message that the 8900 is not working well with a N router

Check the following on your router:
- Wireless Network Mode - set to Mix or equivalent, so it also serves b/g wireless decives
- If you disabled DHCP service, make sure you manually set IP address on your BB based on your router's Network Address Server Settings. It's also a good idea to reserve or assign an IP address on your router for your BB.

Make sure that your router is not set to the "N-Only" wireless network mode.
Did you also enter Subnet Mask, Primary DNS and Default Gateway Addresses?...make sure they're included and correctly inputted.

I don't know about all these answers, but I had to go into my routers settings and change them to allow access to my BB MAC address( found under Options, Status), by adding it to an allowed list.
Now have WiFi and UMA off my Apple Airport Extreme. Thing is, I am with CBW and thought only TMobile has that feature. Although, I believe CBW uses TMobiles network. Anyway, it works.
