Default Cleaning the Trackball without Dissassembly

Please Login to Remove!

For cleaning, I would recommend a device I have for my cameras. Its a bulb that you squeeze and when released it sucks air. Better than blowing the dust into the BB.

Giottos Rocket Air Blower and Q Ball

What other methods do people suggest?

I usually use a q-tip with some 70% alcohol on it and press the Pearl while rolling it with the q-tip. Takes the dirt off and the alcohol evaporates pretty quickly.

The trackball is similar to that of Apple's Mighty mouse. Apple recommends that you use a damp cloth, turn it over with the ball facing down. Then gently rub the ball in all directions.

That's what I do both on my Mighty Mouse and the Pearl.

Those look like overpriced desoldering bulbs or turkey basters.

$3 at your local Radio Shack.

A microfiber cloth with denatured alcohol. Does NOT leave the residue of regular rubbing alcohol. Also denatured alcohol will not damage anything in the event that you get some in a place you did not mean to put it. Super fast evaporating.

Buy small bottles at Walgreens etc. Or a gallon at the hardware store. Has a long shelf life and it's great for cleaning anything that is sensitive or electronic. Microfiber cloth will not leave anything behind either.

Default Apple is the answer...

but not with their mighty mouse cleaning instructions. iPhone is the answer to this crappy little ball. I have tried and tried to clean mine and it rolls side to side and up, but does not go down. Piece of crap BB.

you can buy one of these bulbs from walgreens or any other pharmacy locations much cheaper than on the mentioned website... it's actually used for small children... when they have stuffy nose... get the point

Today is day five with my new 8800.

It's turned off and charging at the moment as I'm checking the battery life for comparison purposes.

So I'm writing this from my 8700, wow! what a difference. I forgot how miserable the keyboard on this is.

The new 8800 is simply fantastic in every area. I highly endorse it!

Cheers...

And here I thought the Anna Nicole Smith story was inappropriately being milked. Made me forget all about that Archer.

What does that have to do with this thread?

Thanks for the tips. I need to buy some denatured alcohol and see how that works out for me... if there is any discoloration will it clean that also?

The thing is perhaps is to clean the rollerball with this method frequently before it gets to the stage that you're facing now.

Maybe the only way to restore your roller ball thingy is to open it up and give it a thorough clean.
